Fletch

Here we go again....again!

Recommended Posts

I had my third reconstructive foot surgery in 13 months today. The subtalar implant in my left foot was suspected to have either moved or been the wrong size because my arch had started collapsing again. As it turns out, the implant (called a CSI Conical implant) had moved and was too small for my joint. My doctor replaced it with the more popular MBA implant in a size 12 as opposed to the size 10 I had in there. Also, my bone graft had shown up in the x-rays as being "spit out" by my bone and when he opened me up the graft was just sitting there on top of my bone, with a nice little crevice in my bone where the paste should have turned to bone. So, he replaced the paste with a paste that will hopefully not be rejected by my body.

In other news, my right foot, which has a size 10 CSI conical implant in it feels really solid and have had virtually no problems with it. Hopefully that doesn't change.

If anyone is looking to correct their flat feet by getting these implants, I still recommend it even though I have had some complications. I can't wait until February when I can hit the ice again!

As always man.....take care and have a speedy recovery.

At this rate unfortunately......the little man might be on skates before you next. :(

And heed my advice on the "mutually beneficial implants". ;)

Thanks Spree, as always. I've gotten to watch 3 games tonight because of the free Center Ice preview and that's made things much more tolerable.

And I told my Wife what you said. Her comment - "is he paying for them?" haha.

Too funny. Sounds like she has a good spirit....nice job.

I only pay for things that I get some personal enjoyment out of......and that never includes another man's wife.

Sorry man. ;)

Look at the bright side. When you come back are you going to play for the Bullets? We really need help, I may not make it much longer.

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys. I'm feeling pretty good - just a little pain but I'm not even taking meds anymore.

Tik - we'll see....my brother and I may be getting a team together that would likely be in the same league.

February. :(

The amount of time you've spend on MSH, while helping fill your time, can't be helping your urge to get back on the ice.

Haha....yeah, tell me about it. I go here more than any other site.....

Some good news though - I saw my shoulder surgeron today who did my SLAP tear repair and he said that I should be able to play in mid-December. Hopefully my foot cooperates and I can hit the ice then! :)

What he really meant (if you read between the lines) is that they are all COUNTING your number of surgeries. ;)

Be done with the knife.......get your ass out on the ice!!!!

Well, I laced them up last night for pick-up roller.....I thought I played decent for not playing in 4 months. My starts and stops were pretty weak though because I still have some pain in the implant area in my left ankle. I was getting really pissed at one of the goaltenders because he kept spilling water in his crease (I know it wasn't sweat because you could see the drip pattern) and he didn't seem to care that people couldn't even skate by without nearly eating it. I could see what he was trying to do, but it was pick up for f-ck's sake.

I did kinda tweak the ankle about 20 minutes in when I stopped awkwardly on it and I thought for a second that I was in trouble, but after taking my boot off and inspecting it everything looked ok. Sore, but ok. I'm going to rest it for a few days and try to play again on Friday.

Thanks man...it felt good to be back out there. FatAndSlow was there too and saw me mark my triumphant return by tripping over the ledge while stepping onto the rink. In the process, my bottle of vitamin water shattered open and spilled all over the place. I ended up using my shirt that I wore to the rink to clean it up until they brought the mop out. It was sad....haha. I felt like a tool.
