Keith 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 The store had become an embarassment to be honest. They stopped caring around 2000 or so.
DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, Cosby's was THE place to go for all sporting goods equipment in NYC. They were THE hockey shop in NYC since Gerry Cosby was on the USA hockey team as a goalie in the 30s. It was a family run business that knew their business. They were extremely successful. Along the way in the 80s, they decided to push all major sports game jerseys completely customized with authentic tackle twill lettering. The MSG shop was like walking into a Hall of Fame where you could buy any jersey of your favorite player right then. As they moved in this direction, they lost their focus on equipment. At one time, you could buy all the Rangers reject pro pattern sticks. The stick selection was tremendous. However, once they started raking in the bucks on apparel, the equipment side of the store was finished.

JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Yeah I kinda noticed. When I was a kid, in 91, 92 they seemed to be stocked with sticks and equipement. Little by little they had less and less. I hope with this new location they may go back to equipment more. Is there anyway to try to convince a team to have an equipment sale...but knowing the Rangers they would make it to Season ticket holders only.
li7039 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 knowing the Rangers everything will be 200 bucks like in double teamed.
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 Just curious on how the name is pronounced; Gary, Jerry, Gurry? And I assume Cosby is like Bill Cosby.I'd like to know as I have a small mental hangup every time I look over this thread in the forum list, and you really never can tell these days, I was in for a world of hurt the day I met Shithead. I've seen Jerry with a G, but also Gary with an e before.

WhiskeyTango19 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 What exactly is MeiGray?
RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted October 16, 2008 MeiGray is a sports Memorabilia comany that handles a good chunk of the NHL's Game Worn inventory that isn't sold directly by the team. They also deal with pretty much every other Pro League in North America.http://www.meigray.com/
JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 The mets sold them almost every little inch of Shea, I think so did the Yanks with their stadium.Just like the Rangers, overprice everything. There is no way I'm paying $195 for Dominic Moore's TPS gloves. They are out of their minds. $150 for Christain Dube practice jersey? Yeah I know who the hell is Christian Dube right. This is outragous. Their selling crap like it's supposed to be a collectable.
JR Boucicaut 3805 Report post Posted October 17, 2008 No, the Yankees did not sell to MeiGray - the City owns the Stadium.
li7039 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2008 and yankee stadium is still standing in 1 piece unlike shea. :(
JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2008 From what I'm hearing is, Yankee stadium won't be done by the home opener. They are behind schedule. The Mets are trying to get that whole area done and beautiful by April 1st, 2009.
beerleaguecaptain 999 Report post Posted October 20, 2008 Part of the renovation is providing better sightlines in certain sections.True. One of my teammates owns a company that is currently consulting on the project and will then be doing a part of the job. They will be regrading the upper bowl and making it steeper. This will help people see the corners and also make room for a wider concourse. If you get a chance to go into MSG you can see the plans... amazing. They also have a great website. It will be a world class facility yet still retain the original art-deco ceiling. Neat!!! The only thing that blows my mind is how they can do this and never close up the place. Amazing. The Mets are trying to get that whole area done and beautiful by April 1st, 2009.I flew over the stadiums at least a dozen times over the last two weeks. The grass went in on the new Yankee stadium over the last couple weeks. The Mets have a lot of work if they want to get that area beautiful by next spring.
