ok, i need to vent, kinda.

so on our socks, we have "Helsana" written across the knees, they're a health insurance and they are one of the sponsors that sponsor the entire junior program in lausanne where i play. so, at the beginning of this season, not all the guys had these socks so we've been playing with our socks turned inside out. (dual layered nylon socks, the inside is plain white) so that we had matching uniforms. Helsana representatives were at our season opener and saw how we were wearing the socks and got made at the whole minor hockey association, so for next sunday every body needs to dish out $45 for a pair of these socks with the sponsor on it. i explained this to my dad, whos been around hockey for ever, and he said, if he were me and my team, he would be taping over the sponsor, if they want their logo to be seen, then we shouldnt have to pay to wear it.. does that make sense?

any way my vent is done, i think its stupid and a waste of money...

I agree with your dad, I'd get some team colored shin guard tape or electrical tape and tape over their logo.

why didn't everybody have their socks initially? who was supposed to get the socks for the organization? I don't see why you should have to pay for them, above and beyond, but on the other hand if i was the sponsor I'd be a little po'd that the team wasn't them though, too...

I'd be pretty annoyed as a sponsor too... But that is something that should be taken care of then, you find out why and you address the problem.

initially we didint have the socks because i didint wanna blow 45 bucks on a pair of socks, when ive got the ones we had last year, the ones the pro team wore last year and a pair of sens edge socks and they all match the jerseys better than what we have now. wait a week, and there will be pics, but thats why twister

I wouldn't wear them still, even if I did buy them, they tried to do this with our football socks, but I wore ankle socks all year to go against them.

Anywayz, I think you've got to understand that the sponsor paid for something in good faith and your team hasn't held up their end of the bargin, in my experiance with sponsors/financial backers I find it's best to just go with it as long as it's for the greater good even if that means paying over the odds for a pair of socks... or being auctioned off in a charity event like a piece of meat while having to pretend your enjoying yourself when you'd much rather be scooping your insides out with a rusty spoon.

that's what i was trying to figure, too....looks like the team got the 'sponsorship' but it's costing the players money? Maybe it's kinda like my softball team, where our sponsor pays for our league fees and for the umpires, but we have to buy the uniforms and they have to have the sponsor's name? So it ends up costing each player a few bucks, but it is less than it would have been if we had to pay for everything.....

Am I not right in assuming the sponsorship deal is probobly worth more than $45/player and thats why the team owner hasn't told them to go screw themselves?

If the team is getting general purpose cash then wouldn't it be alot easier to get the players to pay for these socks then to pay for something else that the sponsors money could be paying for/subsidising. Just because the sponsor is on the socks doesn't mean their cash is going towards the socks.

Yeah, that's what I'm not clear on. Its starting to sound like the team made a deal and they did not live up to their end of the deal(wearing the sponsors name).

If the league has socks for you to buy and you must buy them, why wasn't it part of the team/league fee or with the jerseys?

Is there a league rule or player contract stating you'd buy and wear the socks? If not they can go piss off. Who told you to buy the socks; the sponsor or the league?

Does your league get enough exposure that a 2" logo on your knee is going to matter, or is it one of the euro style full leg ads?

It is pretty hard to figure out exactly what happened from this post, but it sounds like your team management went to some company, asked them for some serious money, was asked to wear the company logo, and agreed to it. The company managers came to see "their team", and found nary a logo. So yeah, the company is going to be po'd about your breach of contract and demand the logo be worn. I would too. In this tough economic time, players and teams have to do ALL THEY CAN to make their sponsors happy! If that is too much trouble, don't worry, next season when you have no sponsors it will not be a problem any more.

As far as the $45, sounds like your team owner is the one responsible for screwing THAT up.

we dont get to keep the jerseys we use, but the socks we do, and TBL its not that we arent holding up our end of the deal, but like think about it, if you want to be seen, are you gonna get somebody to pay you so that you can advertise there?

the coach :P after the sponsors bitched at our coaches.

and for everybody else, the Minor Hockey association in lausanne, every team (junior atom midget peewee) all have the same jerseys and the same socks... so everybody should be wearing them, they are supplied to the heads of the association but we have to pay to wear them.

you shouldnt be mad at the sponsor. they probably put up money to buy the socks and pay the orginization $X. It is up to the orginization to then go and buy the socks which they didnt. you should be upset at the orginization not the sponsor. the sponsor is making it easier for you to play by puting up the money in the first place.

true but whenever my teams have had sponsers it lowers the price to play on the team. maybe its just a scam? who knows. maybe you'll get sold to an old people home in FL.
