Bauer pro defender Shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've decided on purchasing the nike bauer defenders. I heard they run small. I'm 6 feet 0 inches, 150 pounds. My chest is 33 inches(Yikes thats tiny). Should I get a medium or a large? Thanks.

I would probably go with a small. According to Easton's sizing chart, I was supposed to be a medium (6'1, 170), but a size small fit me better than a medium. A medium might not go tight enough on your chest. The only downside to a small is it might be a little short because of your height.

These shoulder pads have a "ribcage shape" and wont protect your belly, maybe thats why you think they run small?!

I would say get them in a size big enough to cover your ribs! I am 5'11'', 42 inch chest and a size M was ok around the chest but didnt come down far enough to cover my lower ribs. Didnt have a chance to try on size L though...

...so i would suggest size L!

how well Pro Defender breathe? They don't seem to have any fancy 'vent armour' etc? or do they run hot?

also sounds like they don't have any spine protection at all, but yet considered 'pro protection' - why? (hopefully not

because it's what 'pros use' since they get paid & care more for performance then for personal protection)

weight wise I'm assuming they're pretty light?

I'm trying to compate Pro Defender to One90 shoulder pads...

I have a pretty similar problem.

Want to buy the pro defender pads but I have no opportunity to try them.

I am 6 feet 3 inches, about 200 pounds and my chest is about 41 inch.

What should I choose? Large or X-Large?

I am only looking for shoulder pads that support my shoulders while hitting. I don’t need good rib or spine protection.

Most pros wear Jofa. Except for clavicle protection, the pro defenders are worthless IMO. Switched to Farrell and couldn't be happier.

this is an old thread...

I did have a chance to try pro-defenders about a year ago, and while being short they do run BIG!

I'm 5'11" 205" with 42" chest now & was even bigger back then & when I tried size XL I was floating in them! way to big, had to sell them quick

personally didn't find anything special about them & sold them right away - I think there was more buzz then substance about these pads.

Yeah I know its an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one with the same topic.

Are there any other recommendations for a shoulder pad that gives you a very good ease of movement?

Just to clarify it, I play some kind of full contact roller which is not as hard as ice hockey.

You don't need to wear shoulder pads, but I've had problems with my shoulder joint.

So I am searching a pad that gives me good protection there without limiting my movements too much.

Thanks!

Based on what you're describing here, I would consider going with the Sherwood 5030 classic shoulder pads - http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/hockeymonkey_2104_91214834 or the Bauer classic shoulder pads - http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/hockeymonkey_2104_208223078. I'm not trying to push this site, they just had the best pictures I could find. Both are lightweight, won't restrict your range of mobility, and they will cost a bit less than the pro defenders. If, however, you want something a little heavier, you might try to hold out for a pair of SBD shoulder pads (II's or III's), but these are really hard to find and are a bit more than you need (especially the III's) from what you're describing. Now this is just my opinion, but I have the pro defenders and don't care for them. The vest is too stiff (though this might not be a problem if I would wear them long enough to break them in), the arm pieces are too small, and the shoulder caps are too thick. That being said, I have a 43" chest and I wear a large. I would recommend a medium for you if you decide to get these. Good luck finding what you're looking for.
