backpack equipment bags

Recommended Posts

I've been using one for roller hockey for about 6 or 7 years now... and for what I need to bring with, it takes care of it.

For ice, I used a traditional hockey bag...

Chances are, you could fit a whole set of adult gear in the backpack, but I never tried. (the only difference really is the ice pants/girdle as opposed to a roller girdle, and shoulderpads if you wear them)

Ditto. I use a backpack style back for roller, but can't fit all my ice gear into it (therefore, I use a regular style bag for ice). However, I do have a couple complaints with the backpack I have. It has two main compartments, and neither one is large enough to hold all my gear after playing, so I cannot separate sweaty equipment from non-sweaty equipment. In other words, I like to have multiple jerseys, towels, t-shirts & socks and after I play, I have to put articles of my sweaty equipment in with my clean jerseys, towels, etc. Just my $.02. Good luck.

-Mike

Conclusion - The benefits of the backpack still outweigh the negatives.

I use a backpack bag. I find it much more practical for longer journeys (i sometimes have to catch trains etc with my kit) It is awesoem for holding roller kit, with enough room for everything and then some, however for ice it is a bit of a squeeze, i can fit everything in, but only just. Well worth having a back though imo

I use the Hockey Canada one that is sold at Canadian Tire. I am 6ft tall and it does fit all that I have to carry, however is fairly cramped. I put both skates skates in one side skate compartment, just like in a shoe box. Carry my jersey, socks and other stuff in the other skate compartment. Sandals and shampoo I put in the front compartment. I do not use shoulder pads so that saves some room.

I have a Nike backpack and I have to meticulously pack my stuff in that bag to get it all to fit. It's quite a nuissance rather than being able to just toss it into a regular bag and heading home. It was worth having it when I took my stuff with me to play in a game out of town and flew with the equipment, though.

I use a RBK backpack bag. A friend got it for me for my birthday. It's the 7K model. I like it a lot. It's nice to just be able to just throw it on my back and walk right in. One of the buckles on the straps broke from the weight, so I'll have to get a new one from the store. I think if you just threw your gear in, it probably wouldn't all fit. I pack my gear a certain way everytime, but I did the same thing when I used a regular hockey/duffel bag. Just makes everything fit better. The bag I have has seperate skate pockets on each side. I fit my shins, shoulder pads, pants, elbow pads, gloves, helmet, two jerseys, and two pairs of socks in the main compartment. In the little pockets I carry extra tape, towels, and whatever else I feel like carrying. My two water bottles fit in the front compartment. A lot more convenient than a regular hockey bag where everything's just all mixed together. It also has wheels and a retractable handle if you want to wheel it around.

just got this bag yesterday and have to say I am impressed with the features. It also looks very well made. The little pockets on the outside are really helpful for carrying the extra stuff you dont want to get wet around. My contact lenses, tape, shower stuff all goes there. I love the mesh bag with the clip you can hang inside the main compartment. All my gear fits inside and the bag doesnt take up as much space as a normal hockey bag. If you dont have endless space available its a great solution.

Was anxiuos at first because of its limited storing room, now I give it two thumbs up.

FYI, the Canadian Tire backpack is exactly the same as the lower-end RBK (without the wheels/handle) - stitch for stitch.

You will tear the shoulder straps out, and you will burst seams eventually, but these are easily fixed, and even more easily reinforced at time of purchase.

Other than the shoulder straps, where would you suggest additional reinforcement? The bag's on sale at CT this week...

Any weight-bearing seams - chiefly along the bottom of the bag, the skate-pockets, and anything you think will 'bulge'.

Basically, everything structural.

I've only ever seen one hockey backpack I actually liked, but it's on the developmental back-burner for now...

I have the Synergy backpack....fits all of my ice stuff (barely) but it works. My only real complaint is that the zipper handles broke off after only a few months use - I had to put zip ties on the sliders so I can still zip it/unzip it.

My Easton Bag is HUGE. All my equipment, locker bag, extra jerseys, towels, & xtra pads fit.

I came from a 40 x18x20 bag and dont miss it.

The shoulder straps work on one shoulder as well... Doubt Ill go back to a regular bag...

my skates are size 10.5 and there is PLENTY of room, I even also load my skate pokets with my tape, laces and put my water bottle in there when I have one.

Its built tough....

I paid $29 for it on sale, should have bought two

 Essentially, I'd have to redo the bag once I bought it, eh? Thanks for the heads-up.

Checked out the two available at CT, and the Easton seems better built, although the skate pockets seem to be about 1/3 the size of the Hockey Canada brand. I also liked all the little zip pockets in the Easton for little PIA things (i.e. cage hardware, tape, hair elastics, etc.).

I think the Easton would be my choice of the two, but $79 is a bit much to justify, when my free Labatt's bag is still trucking along. Too bad I spent all my CT money on BBQ stuff this summer!

I 've had the Easton Synergy bag for a couple of years now. I don't live far from the rink so all I need to put in it is my hockey equipment, a skate rag, extra laces and tape.

It is a pretty tight squeeze but it does fit without too much hassle. One of my skate pockets ripped along the back side. I always use skate guards so I'm not sure how. I do like the bag and it takes up less space in a crowded room. I use a regular bag when I know there will be space for it.

The Easton bags actually come in at least two sizes (maybe three), one of which is relatively small, and one quite big. Still not big enough for goalie pads, but not bad.

HockeyDog: the skate pocket ripped because the material and stitching and sub-standard, as they are on almost all hockey backpacks (and bags, for that matter). That's chiefly why Marcelo from DEFIANT BAGS is doing so well -- his products stand head and shoulders above everything else out there. Just wait until he gets into wheel bags and backpacks...

I use a Mission bag for ice and if you know how to pack it, you will have plenty of room.

I do this:

On the bottom-Shoulder pad, elbow pads, and gloves.

On top of that-Pants (upright), shinpad in each leg of the pants

On top of that-Jersey and undergarments

Skates are in the skate compartments

Helmet is in the helmet compartment

I works for me nicely

And I'm anxious for that to occur!
