Helmet Question(Removing decals)

Recommended Posts

what do the pros use?

If you look at players on the wings that use a bauer helmet(5500-9500) the black adjustment tabs on the side of the helmet look like they have some sort of tape on it. It doesn't look like electrical but i may be wrong.

i guess i should have looked at the link above first! That looks like it may be it.

They are shipped w/ logoless tabs (5500/8500)

The rest of the helmets come logoless.

I dont think thats true, It looks to me like they are painted because Drapers and sameulsons (before sammy switched to reebok) always looked chipped and you could see black underneath

what about Mission logos? will heat take those off as well? i'd prefer not to tape or paint over it, any suggestions

It is most definitely true.

Heat will not remove company logos from helmets. Those should be covered by electrical tape or blackout-style helmet stickers that have been linked on this and numerous identical threads.

Gentle heat WILL remove all the stickers that come on your helmet. You may need to stick some packaging tape over the sticker, flatten it down so the sticker is stuck tightly to the tape, and pull it off, thereby removing the sticker. However, I (and others above!) STRONGLY recommend leaving your HECC and CSA Certification stickers alone.

on the 5500 just take the tabs off and use screws like on other helmets.

logo won't come off because they are hot stamped. when they come out of the mold (be it injection or blow) they are placed in a stamping machine that uses foil to transfer the logo while still hot. most auto parts that are plastic with a colored logo on them are hot stamped. the stamp is done before padding is installed.

Just remember, in some leagues if you remove the certification label, or it can't be read...you can't play with it.

The rarity of that being called in any league is incredibly slim. Entire teams will remove all the logos. Take the USA Hockey National Championships for example. Helmets blacked out, no cert stickers, all over the National Championships. I believe that there's a rule about certifications on helmets in the USA Hockey rule book about that. It's never called.

Hearing of refs in Ontario checking the expiry date on helmet stickers, even though the CSA cert sticker has no date-just the US sticker has an expiry. Old Trainer Guy touched on that in another thread-also mentioned a list of approved helmet/cage combos may be coming. My guys first year in the G, club ordered logo stickers to put on helmet sides and logo/number decals for backs of helmets....then decided against applying them because there is no info available on which adhesives are safe & won't void helmet warranty.

You guys sure the adhesive on tape is ok?

These guys will provide an affidavit stating that their adhesive will not void certification. They did when I asked them.

I have a Mission as well. my team just got helmet stickers and I was concerned that with the Mission logo on the sides that it would look stupid since the logo was wider than the sticker. after a trial run deciding exactly where to put the stickers it came to me: Sharpie!

I Sharpied out about 2/3 of the logo then put the sticker down. I think it looks great but we'll see how it holds up. I'll post pictures later this weekend.

some of you are saying that its best to keep the cert. stickers on incase of injury... well how come in my junior league they give out league stickers and put them on over the cert ones.... what do you do then if youre injured? i dont think the cert stickers are really needed.

Then the lawsuit goes to your league if the lack of certification becomes an issue. What you think about their necessity really doesn't matter in a court room.

Maybe the league sticker would peel right off without damaging the cert sticker or removing any info/ Be a good idea , almost like the oil change service reminder stickers they place on our windshields.

well then i guess it doesnt matter if it goes to the league and not the individual. maybe im wrong?

You take it off, and it's an uphill fight to prove anyone else is to blame. Then again, people do whatever the hell they want and don't expect to have to deal with the consequences. Rules are in place for a reason, and it isn't just to prevent you from looking cool.

I finally got around to doing my Intake tonight. Decided to go with electrical tape to cover them up as it was safer than taking chemicals to it and it won't fade like a sharpie would...

It's not perfect, but it's not bad either...
