Bruins thread

It also helps that the Bruins are as healthy as they have been in years.

*Knocks on Wood*... I went to the game last night, and saw Savard hobbling, Kessel favoring his leg and Krejci disappear for a couple of shifts. And Sturm is out with an "upper body injury".... Let alone Lucic practically breaking his hands on Nick Boynton's face.

I'd expect La Rock and Lucic to dance at least once early in that one too.

Well, we know Komisarek can't hang with Lucic... so might as well throw something else at him. ;)

If Lucic is going to be acting like a tough guy, he's going to have to go with Laraque sometime.

I enjoyed that battle last night. Georges trying to get him to fight...Lucic wanting no part of it...and he scored *L*. But no shinanigens...like you see from some guys trying to goad you into a fight. Laraque wasn't a prick or a cheap shot guy...at least not what I saw.

"Wanna go?'

"No..."

"How 'bout now?"

"No..."

"...now?"

"No..."

Nothing would have been gained if Georges had just jumped him and pounded away...he tried to do it within the "rules" of fighting. Makes for an interesting rest of the series between them.

I also found it funny the Habs fans couldn't decide who to hate more last night...

Booed Ryder, Booed Chara...Booed Lucic.

Between that and "Roy Night" it was entertaining....would have been nice to get the win though. Oh well, points are points. Lots of hockey left to play.

Bruins/Habs games are probably one of my favorite matchups. Always a good game. I might hop on the Bruin bandwaggon , im really liking kessel and lucic.

yeah man, they're both very different, very exciting players

I thought the bruins were fools not to play kessel the whole playoff series last year. 1st game he plays he scored a pretty goal. But then again, he wasn't as mature then. Bruins have some nice pieces to the puzzle.

I wonder if Lucic fears Laraque or if he's more like: "I'd kick your ass George but my coach won't let me". I have to admit that it's not yet time for him to fight the league's strongest heavyweight....he's only 20 !

Lucic can do productive things on the ice, it's utterly asinine for him to fight the fourth line goons on the other team.

i think a lot of people see lucic as an enforcer type player. If u watch the bruins, hes much more than that. dropping the gloves is only part of his value.

I think utterly assinine is a little bit of an overstatement. Lucic did hurt Komisarek and scream at whoever afterwards, team aren't going to take to that lightly. Lucic fought Ivanans already, so he's fought tough guys before. If he's going to play the kind of game he plays, he's going to have to go with the heavyweights from time to time.

Edit*He's going to have to go with the heavyweights a little bit more.

I think Lucic is quickly evolving from a near-enforcer to a power forward, so I think you will see less fights with goons and occasional fights with those who have "taken liberties." He's only 20 and is on pace to score in the low twenties for goals and upper twenties for assists, while leading the league in hits.

I suspect the coaching staff has instructed him they want him laying low with the fists this season.

Exactly... especially considering it was 0-0 for the entire first period. Let's see... 13 point, +9 guy dropping the gloves with a 0 point guy who's a -4 on the season. Not a good trade off if you're in Black & Gold. Just like Koivu agitating Kessel and getting them both match penalties... Kessel's been dancing around MTL defenders since the benching last season. He hurt Komisarek??? Must have been all those rights he landed on Komi's shoulder....

I suspect the coaching staff has instructed him they want him laying low with the fists this season.

He also pounded Boynton the very night before.

Sidenote, I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the "if the stick goes parallel, drop like you've been shot" coaching strategy.

Komisarek gets 20 minutes of ice time per game, laraque gets less than 8. Honestly, I would prefer seeing Lucic on the ice a little more and in the box a little less. I would think he can improve on the 13 points in 21 games if he cuts back on the PIMS. I'mnot saying he should stop fighting, but cutting back somewhat might be a good thing.

Im with chadd. It'd do better to cut back. I see him becoming an Iginla type player, only a tad more rough.

I have always thought of Lucic becoming an Iginla type player even last year when he was more of an enforcer.

I'm not going to disagree on saying that he'd probably get more points if he had less PIMS, but I think fighting is a part of him, and I don't think he's the same player without the extra edge. It's who he is, it's his game.

Perhaps i didn't express myself properly. I never thought Lucic should have fought Laraque, i was asking myself if Lucic would have liked to have fought him or if he was relieved, in a way, that his coach decided otherwise.

I don't think anyone really wants to fight Laraque.... If lucic did, it didn't make sense early in the game as pointed out earlier- it was 0-0 and if Lucic has a draw or or Laraque "wins" or takes him down that would just get the crowd and likely the player even more fired up. Boston had nothing to gain with those two fighting.

Even Bobby Orr fought when he first came into the league, maybe it is a Boston thing.

Note: no one should try and make this statement out like I'm saying Lucic can be compared to Orr.

But, like Orr, maybe Lucic will need to fight less as it becomes clear he is willing, able and ready.

He's leading the league in hits, so he's still playing with an edge, but he's obviously fighting less.

Just to clarify, fewer PIMS doesn't mean that he should stop fighting, just be a little more selective.

Thoughts on the B's third jerseys? I've never been a huge fan of that new alternative logo, but I can apreesh the simplicity:

Personally, I wish they did something more along the lines of the P-Bruins thirds:

Agreed- I've liked the P-Bruins sweaters since they came out. That would have been a much better choice than yet another black jersey....
