So.. is another Manny on the move from Boston?

http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins...as/bruins_blog/

''We thought it could be resolved by today, but it wasn't,'' said Julien, who had Tuukka Rask filling Fernandez' backup role on Saturday.

When asked if that meant the goalie was injured, Julien answered in the affirmative.

As the coach's media session broke up, and reporters lightheartedly talked about clarifying the ''minor thing'', Julien said, ''I'm trying to stickhandle here, guys, and I am not good at it.''

Who knows what any of it means? Julien said that Fernandez cannot yet be considered a scratch for tomorrow's game at the Garden vs. the Habs.

Kevin Regan filled Fernandez' locker space in the dressing room. Interestingly, Fernandez' nameplate had been removed, while other injured players--Andrew Ference, Milan Lucic and Marco Sturm (knee sugergy tomorrow)--all had their nameplates in place

It looks like Regan was recalled for practice. It is probably a cap maneuver where they recall Regan for practice dates and Rask for game dates. The blog has Thomas as the other goalie at practice this morning.

Hearing some talk about the removal of Manny's name plate and his absence possibly a result of his actions at the end of Thursdays game.

Is it normal to remove a players name plate from his locker when he's out a few days with an injury....

He flew off the ice after the buzzer without the usual team gathering to congratulate the netminder after a win. I'm not sure how much of that had to do with the late goal that the B's gave up.

Probably because he's a passer, rather than a goal scorer. Some people treat those two like singles hitters versus home run hitters.

By the way, I just read that Kessel could be out a month with mononucleosis.

Funny choice of words. I remember last year their owner (I think, but it might have been Chiarelli) came out and practically the same thing about Savard, in what I took as a derogatory manner.

I think there is a lot of truth to the statement that players whose points are primarily assists are valued less. I also think that Savard is still undervalued because of the well-deserved reputation he had of being very poor defensively early in his career.

In Boston he has either improved defensively or the team has found a way to compensate for his defensive shortcomings and it is much less of an issue. But a reputation is hard to get rid of.

He changed his game last year and put a bigger emphasis on his defensive responsibilities. He like the rest of the team listened to Julien and played as a team last year and have played that much better this year. I didn't think Savard was a good fit when they signed him. Last year he showed that he was capable of playing both ends of the ice.

I think it had more to do with his reputation of not playing defense coming out of Atlanta. Heck, I was guilty of the same preconception when the B's signed him. He really seems to have made the transition to a much better two way player.

Apparently he was a little ticked off that Sobokta missed his assignment which led the goal.

Hey, just Manny being Manny, right...

They posted a graphic on Versus last night with the top assist men over the past five years. Savard was number two, but the leader by far was Jumbo Joe. To this day, I feel the front office and Jeremy Jacobs were swaying to much by the ranting of Kevin Paul Dupont. It's like they were pissed off that a man the size of Joe Thornton wasn't willing to earn his money by taking crosschecks in front of the net; instead, he took crosschecks behind the net and has averaged 70 assists a year the past five seasons. Of course, it's starting to look like Chiarelli and Julien have righted the ship.

By the way, I thought it was awesome in last night's game when Thomas stuck up for Ward. I don't like seeing retaliation for legit hits, but Kostitsyn clearly boarded Ward.

So here's my story. I'm from Montreal, working in the Boston area. I go at the bruins-habs game last night at the garden super excited about this game. I go in a bit naively, all alone, with my Price t-shirt and my french accent. Get a few boos, a few french fags, just words and laughs you know. The game goes along, I have some fun, don't really pay attention to all the yelling, but I notice as more as the game progresses, people start to get really aggressive, I actually get a beer thrown in my face, I get poked a lot, and I see a fight breaking down near me in the stands between 2 bruins fans. People start chanting USA USA coz they think it's a habs fan getting pounded... Then I start getting Canada sucks, fuck you french ass **** etc...

Man it was intense, I was actually really nervous at the end and was thinking of leaving the game before the end but was scared to get pushed around. Was I a jerk of going there with my t-shirt, or were these guys just plane crazy. I mean Montreal fans are passionate to, but I never see Leafs fans or Bruins fans in Montreal getting assaulted.

I will never go into the garden with a visible habs shirt on ever again... Bruins fans, mission accomplished I guess...

You're lucky, there was a day where things would have been a lot worse in the old Garden. I've never understood the extent some folks go to in their treatment of the visiting fans. Good natured back and forth is fine but some folks just go way over the line.

Now, about the game. Another good win for the B's. The Habs helped out a bit with the penalties that they took but a solid effort again, once they weathered the first period attack. One thing I didn't like and didn't think was a part of his game, Komisarek went low a number of times on hits. I don't recall that being in his repertoire and I hope it doesn't stay. Otherwise, Lucic may have to do something to his other shoulder.

Habs got more shots, more scoring opportunities, Bruins capitalized on powerplays and had a great goalie...

The problem is some Boston sports fans are just stupid. It's a small minority but they make all of us look like jerks. chippa13 is right the old garden things very well could have gotten ugly. Try going to a Pats or Sox game with Jets or Yankees jersey. It's much worse.

The B's survived the first and rebounded with a good effort without Kessel. I did get a little nervous in the last 5 minutes when they kept icing the puck. It looked like the Bruins of 3 - 4 years ago.

Yes, in the first period the Habs had more shots. Their forecheck was giving the B's problems in the first. The B's survived that and were the better team the rest of the way.

Try going anywhere in a Jets or Yankees hat.... concerts, AHL games, Parent/Teacher conferences. It gets ugly.

At least TD Banknorth Garden isn't a sea of pink Bruins hats like Fenway is. *knock on wood*
