One95 Footbed Holes ?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about getting a pair of One95. I removed the footbeds as saw that their are about 10 holes drilled in the front of the boot (Ball of the foot area) None of these holes can be seen on the underside of the boot. Some of them look to go all the way trhough but would be in the location under the Tuuk. Others don't look like they go through all the way.

Does anyone know if they are suposed to go all the way thorugh and if not what is the purpose of them (wieght savings?)

Thanks for you input.

Matt

They're there for drainage. On mine, all holes not above the holder go fully through.

very interesting - I'd like to see a picture as well because on my stock pair the holes don't seem to go anywhere (only visible from inside of the boot - not the outside)?!

is your pair prostock or something?

The holes are there for drainage. You can't see the holder through the holes because there is a layer of plastic mesh, which is visible when you take the holders off.

Drainage? The holes are obviously there to make the skate lighter. Those are just 'pilot holes', get the biggest bit that fits in your drill chuck.... :P

The pro set of XXXX I got indirectly from the Canadiens has a larger hole cut out as well. One in the heel for the Tuuk nut, one in the toe about the same size, along with all the other drainage holes and 5 more in a cross in the arch. They swiss-cheesed these and the skate isn't any lighter than my Vector 6 set from '05-06.

You could probably cut out the whole section instead of a bunch of holes, but then your foot might start falling in

Hell, with the full carbon sole, I think you'd have to tear the whole thing off to save 50 grams

Pro skates ship with the holes drilled in the arch. The retails (Vapor XXXX does too) has the mesh panel and the holes in the toe.

Matt, it's drilled through, but there's a mesh panel on the outsole.

Troy could you take a picture of the bottom of your boot

Thanks

Matt, I'm looking at the holes from the inside with the insoles out. The holes aren't visible from the bottom of the skate.

Ok thanks, SO only the pro versions have holes all the way through.

so is it safe to drill them all the way through on a retail model? does it require any special drill bit?

also more importantly does it actually make any difference?

S15 & 1500C both have a big metal mesh covered straight through hole right under the arch, but I never felt it made much of a difference

in some cases I actually felt it was making things worse since snow was coming through & at the end of a game the footbed & all rivets would be wet

Are you talking about drilling the holes in the arch for vent/drainage?

Yes, you can drill them all the way through. You drill all the way through when you make a hole for a rivet, no?

Yeah I was thinking about drilling the ones that don't go all the way through for better drainage and venting. JR have you done this to any pairs ?
