Will they exchange

Recommended Posts

Ok, so i got a pair of the new 9k's about a month ago and the liner ripped to hell so i'm getting a new pair on warranty.

I absolutely detest everything about these skates and they are not made for me (heel is too wide and not enough volume)

My question is...when the new skates arrive and i swap them for my old pair to send back to RBK, will my LHS allow me to return the warranty pair, unused, or exchange them for another skate like the one75, s15, or a graf model.

I know you guys are going to say "why dont you ask your LHS?" but i just wanted to see what you guys would think before i go waisting their time.

But it's ok to waste our time?

There's no way to predict the policies of a shop we don't know. They may take them back, they may not. Neither decision would surprise me.

Fair enough. My second question is...i get bruises right on my ankle bone from these skates, and also had them with my XXX's, is this becuase there isn't enough depth, or am i just lacing them wrong...or is it a deeper issue since it's happened to more than one pair of skates for me?

When you say "ankle bone" are you referring to the knobby bones that stick out to the sides? If so, that has nothing to do with depth and is probably more of a padding placement and bone spurr issue.

My advice, explain the situation to them, bring in the brand new unused skates you get from the warranty return, and see if they will exchange for store credit towards new skates. And be polite, if you're outside the return policy they're not obligated to help, but they might if you're a good customer.

It is the knobby bones on the side that give me troubles.

Interesting.....i always thought it was depth. Looking at the bruises i can see it's right where the tongue comes in contact with the bones and they're raised a bit now..almost swollen. I go barefeet in skates because i like the feel, but would wearing socks or wearing some sort of bunga pad help this issue? It's really annoying and i can hardly tie the last three eyelets tight or i get extreme pain.

Depth is the distance from the sole of the boot to the top of the eyelets (or back of the ankle channel to the eyelets). Search for "the pencil test" and see how you're doing. If the tongue is wrapping all the way to your ankle bones you've either got a narrow ankle and wide skates or your fit is off entirely. A shallow boot can cause your ankle bones to not sit in the little padded pocket for them, but depth issues usually cause lace bite and arch problems more than ankle bone issues from what I've seen on here.

doesn't hurt to ask.

i was giveen the option of exchange when i had to return my skates for a minor issuse. i would have had to pay the difference though.

Why did you buy skates that don't fit you in the first place?

They seemed to fit at the time. I knew they were big in the heel, but the pump made up for that. They passed the pencil test so i figured i wouldnt have a problem with volume, until my ankles started to swell and bruise. My major problem with my XXX's was the narrow forefoot area, and the 9k's addressed that issue perfectly, so i suppose they sold me on that aspect alone.

I did the same thing, I got fitted for a skate that felt great but after a few months really cause pain. It sounds like you have an opportunity to get new skates, even if you have to sell them on eBay or something, so get something else.

Oh, and did you try XXXX's in EE width? I had XIX's that gave my feet cramps and went to an EE width (and down a half size too) and they fit great now.
