Postal Tape

Recommended Posts

Not sure how many of you guys use it for your pants/shinpads, but I've been a fan for a long time.

Problem is, apparently the post office (or at least the ones in Las Vegas) aren't giving the stuff out for free anymore, and I'm on my last roll.

Any of you guys use it? If so, and it's something you can get your hands on (thinking maybe 3-5 rolls), I'd pay for shipping and toss in $20 for your time.... the stuff is free from the Post Office, just need to see if yours hands it out....

Any takers?

If not, I will be forced into using 'Phat Tape' again. :o

some dude was telling me its illegal to use for anything other than taping boxes to ship

everything not used for postal stuff from the post office is just about illegal. Like those little bins.

I've heard you can go into the post office when you're mailing a package priority, and just ask for a roll of priority tape. Tell them that you ship a lot of stuff from home, and would like to have the tape so you don't have to tape everything at the post office and go through the line twice. If you're friendly and the clerky isn't super busy, it works.

Also, lots of post offices now have an automatic scale in the front where you can weigh, ship, and mail packages without ever dealing with a real person. My local post office often has a roll of tape sitting there for people to use. Some people might be in a hurry and accidently take the tape with them. You shouldn't do that though, taking anything from the government is wrong.

True. Although not sure if they have post-men spying on the local youths at the rinks. My teammate's solution was a huge variety pack of electrical tape. Same properties as sock tape (stretchy/elastic) but some cool colors and literally less than $5 for 10 rolls of them. But c'mon, support that LHS.

Not when they charge, what they do.

It sucks trying to buy hockey gear locally here in Las Vegas. :(

Theres got to be a consequence for miss using it.

Looking at our economy Im sure they dont want hockey players coming in and grabbing rolls to sell online for $20.

I love it when people admit to misusing federal property on the internet. When they ask, we'll make sure to give them your IP address. It's bullshit like this that causes the prices of postage and shipping to go up every couple months.

Do you call the cops on people j-walking, too?

C'mon thats rediculous. The last postage increases were due to rising fuel costs and reduced volume. Not because a couple kids took rolls of tape or some stickers to write graffiti on.

The post office back home stopped handing out tape to kids ten years ago once they caught on that all of the inline players were walking the two blocks over to the post office every time they needed tape. They claim they reduced wasted tape by hundreds of rolls per month. That was in one small town with one inline facility and less than two dozen teams. Multiply that across the country and you're looking at seven figures or more very quickly.

Electrical tape isnt bad, not as streatchy. I started off with it, but prefer clear shin gaurd tape.

For Aussies in a patriotic mood, I recommend earth electrical tape :)

Whenever you upgrade your pants you can get some with a built in leg strap to keep the pants compact against the shin in that area.

Those pant straps are on Mission pants and they wont hold up shinguards alone, you still need tape to hold them in place.

Seriously. I looked for the tape online and asked at my local post office because I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and always use priority shipping, they won't give it out anymore for just this reason. Pop the $2 for a roll of sock tape, or $.50 for electrical tape if you're feeling frugal.

Anyone aside from myself ever think it just looks/looked ridiculous seeing people wearing postal tape around their legs anyway? I never was a fan of this and always thought it was just plain stupid IMO.

IIRC people also used to use airline tape as it was pretty much the same thing as postal tape - either way, I still always thought it was dumb.
