It'd be interesting to overlay some of these with population densities, etc.

I think this last map on rinks is pretty telling. i.e. Florida probably is a good market for 1 team, but not 2.

Florida has 34 rinks. How many did they have before they had an NHL team or two? I'll wager it was a single digit number. Plus, Florida has plenty of transplants from the North.

Someone has a lot of time on their hands. Nice work. But if I may add a suggestion....you've got the Penguins in Erie on the map. Pittsburgh is located in south western PA. You put all the time in effort in, may as well be exact.

Thats awesome! But also unfortunate based on some of the statistics on how many arenas are in each state. I guess Alabama and Mississippi will never be big hockey markets.

That last map with the arena's/rinks in each province/state is very interesting. I'm not surprised Ontario has over 900. You can surely tell which province/state is a heavy hockey market by the arena/rink statistics.

And I've never really knew how close knit the Eastern Conference really was until seeing the map of NHL teams. It appears the playing out in the Western Conference racks up a lot more airmiles.

The fan map is based on votes on a website, that makes them suspect at best. Considering that there weren't enough voters to fill a single NHL arena, it's pretty much irrelevant for any purpose at all.
