Back of 190's

Recommended Posts

The back of my 190's are coming off, ripped on the sides, they aren't hanging over backwards or anything, but at this point they just get in the way when putting them on. I don't want to put any money into them so is there anythign I can do? Or should I cut them off, or just leave them be. This has probably been discussed before but, I couldn't find anything in the search. Thanks

Not quite sure I understand your problem. Is the outsole separating on the outside? Is this issue with the tendon guard? Sounds like the stitching holding the different outsole pieces together has broken down/torn on you. If you could post a picture or two I think it would greatly improve your chance of getting a good answer. Are they still under warranty (should be about 90 days on the boot)?

I have had them for quite a while so, no warranty. But yes the tendon guard stitching has torn, its still attached at the middle, but the sides aren't connected. They are no longer vertical with the skate but, angled backwards.

Ah. I feel like I've read a bunch of disgruntled users complaining about the one90's tendon guard being too floppy and prone to breaking down. I'm sure someone here has a way to stiffen it back up and vertical though. Best of luck.

its an expensive repair, the shop i work at its about $60 dollars per boot.

if you dont plan on keeping these much longer i would just leave it, its not going to hurt your skating at all

if you plan on keeping these a while, its a great repair to have done because it comes out better than it started

On my team this has happened to a few kids, one that i know of went to where he bought them, and he was able to send them back for a new pair, i dont think there was a warranty involved

My one90's are starting to tear at the corners of the tendon guards where it meets the top of the boot. I do not pull or tug on the guard when taking them on or off. I have had these for two years and love the fit, protection, and how light they are. Several shoe repair shops say they cannot do anything for it except reinforcing from the outside of the guard.

I can't express to you how fuming angry it makes me to see any make of skate less than a year old showing signs of wear the way some of the new performance skate lines are showing. Parents and players are shelling out hundreds of bucks for these skates and their just falling apart with very minor abuse compared to what the older leather/synthetic leather skates used to take. Granted the lightness is nice but what good is it if your shelling out over five to eight hundred bucks for a new pair even before their a year old?

HELLO! Easton, Nike/Bauer and CCM. Are you LISTENING! I've already gone over to Grafs and I'm contemplating either Grafs or Missions for my son's next pair. Not going high end either because the kid's still growing. Can you say "We're losing market share big guys. How long before a lot of other parents are fed up with the lack of durability and start turning to other brands? I, myself would rather shell out two to three hundred bucks on a pair that lasts the year rather than a over a thousand bucks to replace the lastest Bling,Blings on the market. Look at the car market guys and see what lack of quality and ignoring the energy concerns have done to the big three. Enough said.

My One90s have lasted 2 years 5x a week by taking the insoles out, drying them upside down, and pulling the skate off by the side of the boot and not the tendon guard. You'd be surprised how many people take piss poor care of their skates and then complain about their "lack of durability".

The issues are on first complete product run or with Easton making a plunge into an unknown field, they've been getting better. Graf (Canada) has horrible QC on skates that aren't a whole lot different from what they were making 10 years ago. Have you heard the same stories about one75s or one95s? No, there are some incidents but not like the one90. You can only test a product soo much to find issues... Do you expect them to think of testing: There are 25% of guys that are going to wear our skate that use the tendon guard as a shoehorn. There are 3% that take their skates off with the other one. There are 50% of the guys that are going to buy our skate that will leave their skates in their car and skate 5 times a week. Then you have to stretch those into year or 2 year long runs of the same routine.

People do weird crap with their gear and most don't take care of them(remember the story about the dead mouse?). That's not NBH's issue. Easton is making great strides with every line. CCM had their first technological advance in skates in a long time... I think the fact that within a year or two they have new product lines that replace and address the issues that the originals had is a good thing.

How long did it take Mazda to fix the fuel economy of the rotary engine? ;)

Can you describe the repair a little more, one of my tendon guards is broken and I'd eventually like to get it repaired since I love the way the boot fits but wasn't sure exactly what the shop could do to repair it.

Thanks
