Getting Back Into It....Need to Replace my Girdle

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just joined the forum and I'm very impressed with everyone's knowledge and helpfulness. I did alot of searching but I can't find any threads on how certain girdles/pants fit in regards to height and shoulder pad interference.

So I'm getting back into ice hockey (adult league, non-checking) and I'm in need of a new girdle or pants since mine is falling apart. Trouble is I liked my old girdle, but can't fix it anymore or find the same stuff on ebay.

My stats:

5'8" tall

36" waist (too much beer)

I am currently using a Cooper CG-Pro X-Large girdle that I loved since it is so light. Also, I liked that it didn't interfere with my shoulder pads at all (Bauer Flak 1st gen) like pants did when I had CCM Pro Stock Supras. Can't find the CG-Pro anymore and more of it needs sewn than is intact.

I'm thinking about getting the NBH Vapor XXXX girdle, but none of the LHS in Pittsburgh have them in stock to try on. So I have no idea on the size. I'd like to know if the vapor girdle interferes with a short guy's shoulderpads.

I'm also considering pants again banking on the fact that maybe technology has improved so that they are not so heavy. I tried on Easton Stealth S9's in Medium and I liked the fit and the quality of the pant. Can't believe the medium fit so well coming from an X-Large girdle. They only had one size so that's all I tried.

I just don't like that I can't switch shells with it like with a girdle.

KoSports and Perani's HW...are there others?

45 minutes south? Are you near Canonsburg?

Also, I'm looking to get a new Pens Shell if I go the girdle route. Where can you get them around here?

I'm from Wheeling....A couple of the rinks have some decent pro shops...Ice Castle's was pretty good the last I remember, and the House O' Hockey in Monroeville is supposedly decent...As far as the shell I don't know of any locally, maybe able to try Ko's? see if any of the guys have a lead on one but there is a seller on Ebay that has them all the time but they go for some pretty serious coin

I think there is a thread with lots of information on both the xxxx girdle and the One90 girdle, with most people saying the One90 wins out. Obviously it is personal preference. I wear CCM Pro Tack pants and they fit better than any other pant i've even owned. But everybody's body is different. What i've done in the past (with gloves) is order 4 different ones from the same online retailer, keep the ones that fit me best and send the others back for a refund.

Well thanks for the responses all.

I scrubbed through the forums for posts comparing the different girdles and such, and alot of info was useful. However, it seems only a few people have the XXXX girdle in their hands. I'm mainly interested in sizing, mobility, rip and scuff resistance of it. Also, it seems that alot of places have it on backorder.

I tried the Tackla girdle and didn't like it. Never saw the One90 in my hands but it looks like every other girdle since the Cooper days. With either of these I'd bet that velcro is not a friend to the spandex fabric on these. The XXXX looks like it is made from something different.

One other thing, I have a cool Nike Ignite shell (size M) that I used over top of my CG-Pro. I'd like to still use it if it would fit (has like a soft thin foam kidney wrap around it). If I have to order a new shell I'd be interested in getting a Pittsburgh Pens shell. Where do people get them?

I don't understand why scuff issues is on your list, since the girdle is going to be covered by whatever 'cover' you choose.

Only cause I want it to last and not tear or look like poop after a couple of seasons. I tend to like to hold onto things that are comfortable.

If you can find some you might want to consider the vapor XX pants they are extremely mobile, although the protection is somewhat lacking, as a user of them I highly suggest them.

Didn't want to start a new topic so I brought this one back.

I have a quick question seeing as ive grown 5 inches in the past 7 months I need all new protective padding but I'm starting with the pants.

Which of the following pants is the most mobile while not sacrificing protection.

. Warrior Method Pants

. Easton s15

.Mission fuel 110

Thanks for any Help

For the question above regarding girdles...Tackla pants are highly regarded, their girdles are not nearly as much. That has been my personal experience with them as well.

If you're spending that much anyway, spring for the best and order a pair of Tackla pro 5000s. Fit and mobility are perfect, and great padding. Everything about these things is well designed and thought out.

Why have I heard both extremes regarding the Tackla girdles?

They're very protective but both of the ones that I've had have had issues with the stitching ripping out. Now some of the pads just randomly float around.

Tacklas seem to be the forum favortie my LHS has only one pair and there not in my size I'l figure something out thanks.

You'll want to order them online. The Tacklas your shop have probably aren't top of the line. I doubt they stock those other pants too, but they can probalby order any pant you want for you.

I've been doing some research and the Tacklas are def. out of my price range I can't spend 160 dollar on pants. I'm on a pretty strick budget under 100 dollar because I just bought a bag and don't have a job right now.

Peranis has the 9000 for 114 and some others for less.

Thanks Chadd checked out my local Perani's and they had some 9000s just not in my size but more should be coming soon. I found some on Ebay in my estimated size as well.
