Graf G5 Ultra

Recommended Posts

So I've skated on Graf 705s for a long time and needed new skates finally. I tried on a pair of G5 Ultras at my LHS and liked the way they felt so I got them. After my first couple of skates I noticed that the heel area is narrower than the 705 and is causing a bit of pressure/pain on the outside of my heel. If these were leather I would just get them punched but with the composite material I don't know. Does anyone know if punching out this kind of skate is common practice/a good idea. A buddy of mine has one90s and he had the ankles of them punched out b/c he has an extra bone but idk if the materials/construction is similar. Thanks!

You will be fine, do to them as you need. I dont think they are really composite...its more like a fabric weave made to look like a composite. At least thats how mine were...

If you liked your 705's I would probably stay in them, I had the same pair of 705's for 5 years, saw a few hundred games, were still useable when I pitched them. After 80 games (plus practices and pickups) last year the 705's Had went softer than my 705's.

I went today to get them punched and just a note for anyone who has the G series graf skates...be careful when they heat the boot up, the guy melted the inside liner and ruined the skates. I watched him too and he didn't even heat them up that much, I've seen them do bauer vapors and supremes the same way with no problem. The shop is replacing them, which is good of them (esp with the economy the way it is) but now I'm out skates until they get them in. Sux...

Did they leave them in to long or set the oven to the wrong temp?

I asked afterwards and he used a heatgun, idk why the hell he didn't use the oven...

good news is they came through quick, I picked up the new pair today!

What is the correct bake temp and time for these skates?

DO NOT BAKE THEM YOURSELF!!! if thats what your implying. I asked the same thing to my lhs and they said bring them those who have the special oven, only! A customer tried to do it themselves and the toe melted and im sure other things...i recommend not to :)

We have a high end convection oven at the house more capable of maintaining a constant temp than the skate ovens. I have done many pair of Bauer and a few mission with it, with no problems. I just could not find the info on the Grafs. They are comfortable right out of the box, so I'm not sure if I will bake them at all. Are the foams used in the ankle padding heat sensative and able to be molded?
