ice hockey tape

Recommended Posts

I just started up ice hockey. My tape is looking hideous and besides looks it's also starting to peel off and decay a bit... should i replace the tape often (when it looks like that)?

Some people change it for every game, some for every period, some every few games. But yes, pretty often.

I change it for every game, but not for practice.

I tape it before each ice session, wax it up, then remove the tape at the end of the day. keeps the tape and blade pristine but i also go through tape like crazy.

If you use a wood stick or blade it should be every game. If you use composite, replace as you feel you need it. I change mine whenever I have large rips or the bottom is gone.

I tape my stick quite often - not because it needs it but because I like doing it. I would bet a lot of people on these boards are the same way.

Nothing beats a fresh tape job.

I re-tape when it gets ratty looking. Tape, apply wax, melt wax with hair dryer. Depending on how you play that setup doesn't need to be re-done evry game unless you like to.

I re-tape after every ice time. Sometimes I will re-tape if I haven't used a stick for a couple weeks too. I love taping sticks...drives my girlfriend nuts.

When playing Ice, i take it off right after my game. I was always told that wet tape left on your blade can rot and decay your wood blade as well as soften your composit blades... just somethig i have been doing for years...Fresh tape every game

I use a composite OPS and a 2 piece. With the 2 piece, I use wood blades, because I like them, and they are cheap, so I can experiment with curves.

I always removed the tape from the wood blade after each game because I don't want the blade to get wet and rot/crack/soften.

With the OPS I usually do it after a couple of games.

When I tape, I run a piece of tape along the bottom of the blade too, so it doesn't wear the bottom as quick, so it will last on the OPS for a couple of games
