Inexpensive pants

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some pants, around $60, for sticktime/stick and puck/pick-up games a couple times a month, maybe 12-15 times total a year.

I'm looking at rbk 5ks, CCM v04s, Easton ST4s, NBH Vapor XVI and Supreme 30s and Mission Fuel 90s.

I want something that's going to be protective enough for occasional bumps and getting hit with pucks. I'm not going up against wild slappers or intentional full body contact. Right now I normally just wear track pants with shin guards underneath, but I want the extra padding of hockey pants. At this price does it come down more to how much I like a certain look and the little things like closure system and such as opposed to protection offered? I've never actually looked at protective gear seriously, so I don't know what specifics to look for when choosing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything. But people got a lot of good things to say about RBK pants. I'm looking for new pants as well and a lot of people have suggested the 5K pants over other options such as easton S7s and Warrior Methods...

The RBK stuff is made by Jofa, so if you have any positive experience with their stuff, they you will most likely enjoy the RBK line.

The RBK 5K's and the Easton S-7's should be more than sufficient protection for pickup hockey. I don't know about the Warrior pants so I can't pass comment on them. I use the S-7's for pickup and they are very protective for that level of hockey.

My buddy uses the method pants and he likes them a lot, i would say they are close to the same protection but I would choose the 5k's.

I have some Fuel 90's and I like them a lot. They fit me the best out of all the pants I tried on. I've played with them a fair bit now, and I haven't found any weak spots in protection. Only complaint I have is sometimes when I fall on my side, the hip padding isn't always in the right place. It's made for a few stingers on my hip, but I had that problem with my old Easton pants too.

Would stay away from easton personally their protective line up is not that great, as people have said you would have no problems with RBK or Bauer

The CCM Pants are nice too. I actually just bought the V08 because I wanted more protection so the V04 should be good for non contact hockey.

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I'm about 45 min from the PA branch of HockeyWorld so I'll have to go check out what they have. I'm leaning towards the 5K, but it'll be a while before I pull the trigger. I might even be able to find some deals on '08 gear if I wait until the '09 stock comes out.
