Cracked CCM holder

Recommended Posts

The Prolites have been discontinued for about 4 yrs, get over it. CCM has a new holder. The Prolite was fine for it's time, and NO you can't squeeze it in with your fingers, weak wristed or not. When mounted on a skate it is stiff and strong, and will last many years. I can flex an unmounted Tuuk holder and almost bend it in half with very little pressure, no big deal. When mounted, it is strong as well. A hard shot can/will break any holder. The Prolite was a great holder, superseded by new technology. Get over it.

You certainly could squeeze it together(not touching but obvious flexing), back of the front tower... keep in mind that this was a 11.5 skate. You could flex the front tower of a smaller holder too, moreso that anything else i've seen on the market.

the Prolite3 was a great idea when outsoles WEREN'T carbon fibre. Yeah, they had great feel on the ice, and in theory, it was a great idea for the design of the Prolite3 to focus support on the high-pressure parts of your sole when skating. But since outsoles became stiffer, having such a design was becoming somewhat pointless.

The vast majority of the broken Prolite3's I've seen have come from skates with carbon fibre, or fibreglass outsoles. Prolite3's on Tacks models with PU outsoles fared much better than models with carbon/fibreglass outsoles. Some may disagree, but that's my $.02 from experience.

i can vouch for the OP.

Just broke the toe piece of my prolite 3 holder, simply by skating hard. No blocked shots, didn't even kick the puck up to my skates that game...

I just broke mine similar to the OP except I didn't break off the back piece. Can I get just the broken one replaced with an E-Pro and skate on the good Pro Lite on the other skate? Obviously it may look a little funny, but will I be able to tell a difference? I don't want to replace a good one. I've only got 30-40 hours tops on the skates, it's men's league, and I'm not a beast (5'9", 140 lbs).

I had a similar problem with my 1052s. Never had a problem when they were new (and I was playing pretty good hockey back then) after a few year hiatus, I came back to hockey, and the ProLite 3s had become brittle. Took a mildly hard shot off the foot, and the front three towers of the holder busted to pieces. I noticed my stride was really weird, but it wasn't until I got back to the bench that I realized my skate was destroyed. The rear tower was strong enough to mostly support the blade after the three front towers were either gone, or only partially intact.

I had both holders replaced with E-Pros (after closer inspection, there were some cracks forming in the holder on the other skate too). I've since upgraded to a newer model, while my 1052s are in great shape, they never fit me quite right.

HELLO! please tell me what the size of Pro Tacks if Holder size is 295? thanks

I don't understand your question. You want to know what the size of the skate is if the holder size is 295? Don't you already know what size the skate is? Can't you tell by looking at the skate? 295 holders fit a wide range of boot sizes.

Hi guys. I have a pair of 852 super tacks size 8, took a pass on the toe and the same thing happened as above. I would like to replace the holders with E-Pro's. Here is my question the Prolite holders CCM put on are 280's, but the CCM chart calls out for 271's for size 8 skates. Should I buy the 280 holders and will any rivet holes line up or go with the 271 holders and drill all new holes? I don't get it because my newer 892's are the same boot just with E-Pro's and skatelock with 271's. Thanks for any input.

I had a pair of Pro Tacks and replaced the 287 Prolites with 287 E-Pros. I'm pretty sure they had to drill all new holes anyway, and the 287s were a little big, I think 280s would have been a better fit.
