Man, is anyone else getting a craving for ice?

Recommended Posts

I don't play on any organized teams anymore, one because I'm not the greatest player in the world and didn't feel like devoting hours of practise time to play B5 hockey, and two because I hurt my knee this winter and don't feel like being a cripple for the rest of my life if I hurt it again, so I havn't been on any ice since late february :o I did play roller hockey from april-june, but it's going to be another solid 2.5 months till the mid/end of november when there is good skating ice, and I have a massive hankering to go out there and fire pucks around. Watching all the world cup games and playing ESPN NHL 2005 isn't helping either. Anyone else here in the same boat as me?

I haven't played real hockey other than outdoor shinny in two years because of a shoulder injury. It's now 1 year post surgery and I'm pumped.

This fall and winter will basically involve being on the ice morning and noon 5 days a week, plus 2-3 evening league games, as well as the travel team.

The thing to do where I am staying is to make 10's of thousands of dollars all summer, and go on EI and play hockey all winter. Not a life choice but fun for year.

I have to wait till my thumb is ok to go play, it should be in about a week, I don't want to go before I sell my Nike's and get my Eagles.

What part of LA are you living in? It seems to me there are rinks just about everywhere here.

Wow. I can't believe there are guys that have to (and are able to) go so long without ice. With spring/summer leagues and open hockey, I am on the ice at least three times a week all summer long. If I had to go two weeks without ice I would probably go absolutely nuts. I feel for you guys.

el monte, i usually drive an hr to ontario, im thinking of going to disney ice, but thats pretty far too.

back in canada i could walk 5 min to the rink.

if id drive an hr id arrive at burnaby 8 rinks (where canucks practice) or at joe sakic way, where the bears play.

Some rinks here in previous years started the winter season mid Oct. with summer hockey generally ending early to mid Aug. It was a long wait. This year there wasn't even a week's break between the summer/winter ice, so I don't really feel that urge to get back on the ice since I wasn't ever off.

Wow, definitely not the way I wanted to start things off. The ice was terrible and way too hard. Definitely needs to be flooded. But I saw the most disturbing thing I've ever seen. This guy hadn't played in 2 years and is out there. Hes hanging in, but I'd say its a pretty competative game. He takes a shot, but his back foot gets caught in the ice. Long story short, his femur completely comes out of his knee cap. You could see the whole tip of the bone pushing against the skin, it was so damn gross. The poor bastard was in the worst pain I've ever seen anyone in. You could hear the guy yelling all the way in the lobby when they popped it back in. Buzz, I sure hope you're better than these guys were. They took their sweet ass time walking around in the lobby before getting down to the ice, and then complained about how cold it was. It took them over a half hour to get to the guy, and the firestation is less than 5 minutes away.

If I don't get to play hockey twice a week, even in summer ... well that's a bad week. I even get the hockey jones when I'm on vacation at the beach or my lake cottage and there's no rink for hundreds of miles.

Fortunately I play in a league that has summer hockey (just ended) and a new season starts in a week, and in the meantime I have a couple of regular pickup groups I can play anytime I want, plus open hockey at a couple of local rinks.
