Anyone Bought These "Seconds" 9k's?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone bought these 9k "seconds" and what is ACTUALLY cosmetically wrong with them:

I have a feeling its nothing more than a scrape or miscolor in some spot on the skate.....like as if you were digging in the corner or something. But who knows?

Are you satisfied? I saw this right after I bought some 5k skates since I'm a cheapskate......pun intended.

small little scrapes or slight discoloration is exactly what it is

there's nothing physically wrong with the construction of the skate otherwise it'd be unsafe to sell

My brother did this and bought seconds. He says they were great. They looked almost new, like they were used in a few games. I've done stuff like this before and have gotten almost new stuff to stuff that has looked like it has been used for months.

I would always take the cheaper way :D but to each his own.

If they were used don't you think they would be advertised as USED and not just "MINOR COSMETIC BLEMISHES"?

They aren't used skates, they're exactly what they say they are, cosmetic blemishes.

Yea, I would take the chance on them for that price too.

The seconds that my store had all came with tags that alert the sales staff and the customer (if the store does what it is supposed to do) of what the defect is. Usually it is something really small and cosmetic. None of them are used as far as I know.

Alright, if you are that worried about it then don't do it...simple as that...

If you read the description it says "MINOR COSMETIC BLEMISHES". IF there is anything other than that you should be able to return them without question...

I was actually at The Hockey Shop store this weekend. I saw a pair of the "Seconds" and noticed nothing. The rep said usually it is a missed stitch or something. He said they wouldn't sell the skate if there was something inherently wrong with the stability or structure of the skate.

Exactly right - Reebok/CCM puts a tag on the skates stating EXACTLY what is wrong with them as well as a punched hole in the tendon guard. My previous employer used to buy seconds from them and it was pretty descriptive on what it was.

But yes, check the mount as well, regardless if they are firsts or seconds.

How big of a hole do they punch?

Tendon guard, eh?

That seems odd. Way back when, I got Vapor XX seconds - the whole was punched near the top of the tongue.

I know, I'm not saying it's odd that Reebok would do it differently than Bauer, I just think the tongue is a much better spot for the punching than the tendon guard.

People carelessly weaken their tendon guards enough as it is.

Isnt the tendon guard supposed to be a little flexible? Even without it you should still be able to skate... punching a hole in the tendon guard wont adversely affect it, as the older style skates used to have two holes grommet-ed.
