pops04xx 2 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Just wondering what you guys thought.I am a right handed shot but for some reason I think lefties have an advantage with most goalies using the left hand to catch with.

JohnnyCanuck 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I would disagree, if there is any advantage to be had, you would think that the natural reaction for anyplayer is to shoot across his body, therefore shooting to the blocker side on most tenders, ie Lefties shooting into glove hands vs. blocker side.I think this as the curve would dictate which direction the puck goes, curve is to the right on left handed sticks, therfore shooting (when looking at the goalie) at YOUR right side, or to the goalies left side. highorder 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Lefty here.I don't seem to have too much luck on the breakaway, because I never remember to shoot 5 hole. In a mens league like mine, the goaltenders are all weak down low, but most guys try to shoot high for whatever reason.
Hockeyman11385 1 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 From a purely shooting perspective, at a high level, I think righties have the advantage because the majority of high level goalies go into a butterfly when a shot is taken, especially in close. When the goalie goes down, the glove has a natural tendency to drop leaving the top corner open on the near side (easier shot). A lefty would be shooting at the blocker side, which usually stays in the proper position due to the stick "holding" up the blocker hand.

pops04xx 2 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I always thought low blocker side was the highest percentage shot and in saying that...being a lefty would be to your advantage.

Chadd 916 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Not if you prefer to shoot across your body...It's a much lower percentage play than going to the same side.
interpathway 9 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Surely, but it is still a PP issue.
mrusse01 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Most goalies shade the blocker side though, because it is easier to make save with the glove. As a lefty I find it pertty tough to beat a guy glove side on a breakaway because I don't have as good of an angle to get it up there. That being said, it's a lot easier for me to shoot low blocker, which as someone said is probably the most effective shot against a good butterfly. I will almost always deke to my backhand or shoot low blocker, I think as a lefty that is the best strategy on the shootout. FWIW, the best pro's seem to be LH; S. Kozlov (20/35), J. Jokinen (20/38), E. Christensen (16/28), W. Wolski (13/21), P. Nummelin (8/10)
adam14 182 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 being a righty, i cant stand aiming blocker side, I will if its open, but i just feel it will be an easy save because i assume the goalie will get in the way in the distance the puck needs to cross both vertically and diagonally to reach its destination. therefore i tend to go 5 hole or 8-10 inches glove side. worst case scenario, i'll deke, which i tend to do alot, all you need to do is fake a shot. Everyone in this area played baseball growing up and they can catch. Moving the blocker and stick quickly and accurately is another story.

dangler16 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 I always thought low blocker side was the highest percentage shot and in saying that...being a lefty would be to your advantage.I'm a lefty and that's my favorite snipe. low blocker for the smaller goalies, 5 hole for the giants on the breakaway or shootout. By the time the SO comes the ice sucks in the rink i play in so deking isn't much of an option. For leftys it's all about preference. Toews and Johnson shooting the puck with lots of success. 4 goals low stick- 1 high glove between the two of them. I hate watching the video but that was a great game. only if the result was different :( You Tube WJC Shootout video
