Avery IS back on the Rangers

Recommended Posts

The Ranger's that I referred to were NOT players that any Rangers fan would want to see go...

As of right now, there's only 1 player on the Rangers that fans would mind leaving and thats Henry, other than that they have all played like overpaid bums.

+1 - unless it's Hank (maybe Cally - he works his tail off) I wouldn't care if they traded the whole team!

they are playing like crap...maybe we need Avery to shake things up

Why does everyone bash Drury? What has he done so terribly? He was never a guy who put tons of points on the board. He only averages about 56-60 points a year, and between 25-30 goals a year. He has 15 goals and 34 points this year. He is known for being a hard worker, and being in good position, not for being a big scorer.

Maybe just the presence of Avery will shake things up enough to get the overpaid "stars" to start playing with as much heart as their less skilled but more driven 3rd and 4th line counterparts.

Avery should clear waivers by 11am today so after that we'll see what happens.

I didn't/wouldn't bash him but wouldn't cry if he were gone either...you are correct he has averaged 58 pts per year over his entire carrer, but he scored almost 70 points in 2005 and 2006 befoire coming to NY. Where is that production now? -7 that is terrible...

I will say it again, Callahan is the only hard worker I see on the ice right now

Betts, Sjostrom,Dubinsky, Naslund, Girardi.... Just because the numbers aren't where you and I think they should be, doesn't mean they aren't working hard.

Everyone here who plays knows that sometimes we go through streches where we can work our GD asses off, and nothing to show for it. Pros hit that same spot sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, I think the team as a whole is underachieving. But to point at certain players simply becuase of contracts really isn't fair.

You also have to factor in the system the guys are playing in. Drury was in Buffalo where they were going hot and heavy to the offensive end trying to score goals every time they touched the puck. Renney has a nearly polar opposite system from what I have seen.

I think those you named are doing ok...and I agree we all hit tough spots (we just don't get paid millions a year to not hit one).

as for working hard:

12 shorthanded goals at this point or any point in a season = not working hard

-20 team rating = not working hard

15% power play = not working hard

we seem to only work hard when we are a man down (87%)...explain that

Plus, Drury is usually a "playoff guy"!

As much as I hate the Rangers growing up a Flyers fan my entire life, I do not think they should bring him back by any means. If it is true that some of the prominent Rangers players asked not to bring him back over the summer than what would change now. I think this will cause some big problems in the dressing room for them which will absolutely hurt them down the stretch.

Which insider is this Peter? Inquiring minds, and all that....!

*ahem* pm please

He was on the ice last Tuesday night at MSG but didn't play in the game that night. He did, of course, play for the Rangers at one time.

Avery will be there to shake things up on the ice for the Rangers. You can bet he will be on a short leash.

Do I think a tiger can change his stripes? No.

Don't worry, you won't be the only one. It will be the end of Sather, that has to be a plus at this point.

I'm wondering who they're going to move to make room for his salary. The only guys that people would take are going to be guys they should keep.

As long as the Rangers make the playoffs, Sather is staying. Prucha is likely to be gone from the roster.

If the locker room implodes and trade demands are made, especially publicly, I have to believe Sather takes the hit as well as Renney.

Avery is around $4M, they have around $1m in free space and Prucha is a $1.6M hit for the season. Still need to make a little more room just for this season, according to a couple websites but those numbers may be off enough for Prucha to be the only one to leave. It would also put them around $44M for next year for ten guys and a whole bunch of RFAs that should be getting a raise.

Am i the only one who thought New York City was the perfect fit for Avery? The rags played better with him than without him, thats a fact. Ban him from media interviews and your fine. Becides, he can work on fashion when hes not on the ice. =P

They played so well with him that one noted player tried to get him to knock off his shananigans on the ice DURING an important power play. Yeah, those guys loved him.

I've been saying for years that the Dolans are the root of the problem - they have been too loyal to the wrong people on both the Rangers and Knicks side.

Slats is looking out for himself, first and foremost. Not that I am saying that he is qualified but there's a reason why Messier hasn't been brought into the management fold. It would start a chain of events that would not favor Slats. It was around that time that it was revealed that Slats can be president of the team until he doesn't want to do it anymore.
