Olympic roster speculation

Many of Canada's best defensemen were still busy with other games in May.

So that means Bouwmeester and Green shouldnt make the squad? Regardless of whose on the team, Burns played great at the International level and should be given serious consideration.

In the games I've seen Burns play, he has been very good. Talented skater who is still young and can develop into an elite Dmen.

I am a big fan of Boyle but I do not know if he is a lock. Canada is so damn deep that it can go either way. I would say the only Dmen who is a lock to make it would be Green or Boumeester. I wonder if Neids is going to play after this season?

Did I say that or was I simply demeaning Burns' being the best defenseman at the worlds? You decide.

Well if Burns isnt good enough, then by association, Green and Meester wouldnt be either. im just saying that even with those 2 on the team, Burns shined. International hockey and NHL hockey are not the same. It could be the Wild's style that limits Burns.

Potential development is irrelevant for the Olympics

True, but there is something to be said about getting a few young guys on a team so that by the next go-round they'll have experience at that stage.

I can understand considering him, just not calling him a lock. I wouldn't want a team full of young guys, just like I would want a team full of offensive d-men. Having Boyle, Green and Niedermeyer wouldn't make sense to me as you need some balance and grit in there as well.

in all honesty, I have a feeling this tournament could put the Swiss in "That" group of elite hockey teams of the world, after their performance at the last olympics, hosting the worlds in april, i guess time will tell.

By the end of this season the first 6 forwards, the first 4 D and the top 2 goalies will be lopcks, imo anything after that will be a decision not made until late this year/early 2010, everyones game is up and down, especially that 3rd goalie, 2 months ago it was Price's and he's lost it for now

i think russia is goin to take it. they look good lets just hope they play as good as their names are,

then canada with silver

and u.s with bronzww

1. don't appreciate the username

2. Russia's success depends on which players decide to accept the invitations. They often have troubles because of players' views of Hockey Russia or what have you.

It sounds like USA is 100% behind the youth movement, and wants to retire the old guard. That means no modano, weight, tkachuk, no chelios or roenick, and Rafalski is on the bubble.

I wonder if Tavares is good enough for 2010.

Doubt it. Crosby wasn't good enough for Canada his rookie year, and I certainly haven't heard that Tavares is better than him.

I can see no Modano, Weight, Tkachuk, Chelios or Roenick, but Rafalski on the bubble? Rafalski is second in the league this year in points for defencemen and he's still in his prime. Why in the world would Rafalski be on the bubble?

Going to be awful tough to crack C for Team Canada.

Crosby is a lock, Vinny has to be a lock, Thornton probably is as well. Then you've got Staal, Carter, Savard, Getzlaf, Richards, maybe Toews, maybe Spezza gets a sniff. It's pretty disgusting the depth at centre, they're just going to have to put some of these guys on the wing, I think Staal, Carter, Savard, Getz, and Richards all should be on the team.

Tavares has been dominant against players his age, but hasn't played one NHL game yet so it's doubtful he'll be considered for the 2010 team. He'd have to be really impressive in the first few months of the NHL...like top 5 in league scoring impressive. Even then he'll be hard pressed to make Canada in his rookie season with the amount of proven NHL talent to choose from.
