Renney fired

Recommended Posts

Torts in NY will be AWESOME....he was great in Tampa with ONE camera on him...can you imagine the spotlight on him and the soundbites he'll have on Broadway?

Besides that...he deserves to be back in the NHL.

NHL Live (the XM Radio show) pointed out something interesting....All 4 teams that started the year overseas have fired their coaches this year....

From what i hear, the Lightning want some type of compensation. Why would you want compensation for someone you thought was ill-fit to run a hockey club?

Uh, because he's still legally under contract to you and you want to get paid?

I suspected they'd go after Torts once the Renney termination rumors started swirling. He was really the top coach available IMHO. I think he's a no-nonsense guy that the team needs to get back on track, but I'm also not sure how his ways will be received by the team in the long run. I question the real chemistry of this team and if they don't want to buy into a system as a whole, only bad things can happen.

Does anyone know if Torts and Lecavalier had any personal issues? I know Torts can be abrasive, and I wasn't sure if Vinny was responsible for getting his coach pushed out because there were off-ice issues.

Vinny went to management back when Feaster was the GM and tried to get rid of Tortorella of course Tortorella wanted Vinny traded. Feaster told them both to stuff it and check their egos. The end result was a stanley cup. The moral of the story, sometimes you shouldn't give in to either side.

Gottcha. I thought I remember hearing aboot some issues, but I wasn't sure. I guess we can kiss the Vinny to the Rangers rumors goodbye that were abound not so long ago. There's only one jersey for that guy and it's red, white and blue, but not Rangers red, white and blue...

the real interesting thing now will how avery will welcomed to the big club

That's a pretty good point. On Tortorella's favorite TSN activity, the quiz, he had this to say:

"Question No. 2: Should the New York Rangers bring back Sean Avery?

John Tortorella: No, and I don't even want to talk about Avery. "

Source: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=262320

Should be interesting.

Let's not forget that he needs to go 4-0 in his first 4 games on the Shirt's bench just to have a .500 record as Head Coach of the Rangers.

Haha, yeah over his career! The team was already terrible when he took over as coach at the end of that season.
