Skate Advice Please

Recommended Posts

I've had a problem with every skate I have worn and tried a regular and wide width in skates. I am currently wearing a size 5EE in the Supreme 70s. Previously I wore a 5D in the Supreme 8090s which I wore from November 2006- August 2008. My LHS sized me in the 8090s. I had excruciating pain on the sides of my feet and the skates were baked and looked like I was busting out. I couldn't deal with the pain anymore (2 years of it) and went to another LHS again to look for new skates. They tried to put me in Vapor XXIIs in a 5EE. They were painful just to put on and tie but they wanted me to walk around more. The owner of the shop said my best bet would be to order the Supreme 70s. The only other skates there were the U+ skates in a 5D and I couldn't really afford $300 or trust their opinion. It didn't feel perfect either which I know it is a skate you need to bake to get a better fit. I tried on a RBK 3k 5D at PIAS today but it didn't feel like enough room depth wise in the toecap.

My feet are small, flat, and fat. I need a higher volume skate like the Supreme 70 but without any built in arches. I've also noticed that my heel slips and I tried tying tighter but my hands are now raw. I'm a 25 year old female, playing RW/D. I can't skate backwards too much because the archs hurt. I live in Florida and have called all skate shops in Florida, literally. I live in Clearwater. I have been to Brandon, Oldsmar, Ellenton, and have called Estero and RDV. I need to know what I am looking for because the experience in 2006 put me on neuropathy meds for nerve damage. Once I changed skates, I was able to go off the meds. I know I should just go for customs which I will have to save up for.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yea, you see how that worked out. I did try all the suggestions like the superfeet. I also have tried shock doctor insoles and gel insoles. I'm starting to think its the skates.

Most of my pain went away after I switched to the Graf (Sidas) Pre-molded insoles and also I spent $80 on the Graf Heat Moldable insoles that you can get with the newer Graf models of skates. I have 2 skates with the heat moldable insoles and another pair with the pre-molded stuff. I'll never skate again without proper arch support. I'm sure you should just follow JR's suggestions or meet him personally. Isnt he in Florida as well?

I concur, try the Nike Flexlites, the 16 or 18's. If they don't have enough volume you'll definitely have to go to custom made skates. Are you currently wearing orthodics in your street shoes? If so you'll need your skates insoles moulded to the same specs to wear the skates properly because your feet will need the same stabilization as in your street shoes.

Not wearing any orthotics at the moment. However, if I add anything bigger than the shock doctor insoles I will need deeper skates than the Supreme 70s. Biggest problem right now is the built in arch in the skates.

That is my first reason. Just figured I would try to make a trip out of it instead of get to Orlando and then drive back, especially since it will be a total of four hours driving time. :)

What is it with players in Florida and their feet? Too much time in flip-flops?

Actually it's not exactly a FL thing...a lot of kids nowadays have collapsed arches because they wear flip-flops and skater shoes.

I haven't worn flip flops in years, more than 15. I do have the collapsed arches though. But I bet you both see this problem alot.

I forgot to add that I don't wear any type of heels either. Previous job I was on my feet for up to 10 hours a day.

Flip flops? Rofl

Never wore flip flops or skater shoes in my life. I have no arches. My mom has none either. My son who is 3 and appears now daughter also have no arches. We all have flat high volume feet with bigger toes. Some people just have these feet. That 10 page tacks thread has a discussion about why we like that boot and why it was so good for those of us with hobit feet.

My son likes reeboks. Pretty much only skate that doesnt cramp his foot and is wide enough for him. I am sure JR will do a great job. Your experience points out why I have issues with young LHS employees and others who no matter the shoe issue recomend Bauer.

For me Tacks and Grafs are really the only skates I dont have issues with

hockeymonkey has a fair amount of Tacks in your size pretty good prices. Just cant return them as they are all clearence items. As it appears the U was close I think the Tacks might be ur skate. 04 tacks are only 100 and in your size.

ahbroody,

A. My post was actually a little bit of sarcasm that flew over quite a few heads, yours included.

B. Your love of Tacks is well documented in the 10 page thread. I get it and have no problem with it. More power to you. I am glad you have a skate that fits you. If you came in my shop I would refuse to sell you Bauer skates once I saw your flat feet. I have more than enough experience selling skates that I know Bauer is not the brand for your flat foot.

C. I have been selling skates since 1979. That would be thirty years of experience that I have fitting all kinds of feet to ALL kinds of brands of skates.

Dark I didnt mean to come off like that. Sorry if you took it that way.

As to my comments about sales persons I can only speak to the guys we have out here in Nor Cal who say " I only wear Bauers" and looked at my feet and kept recommending Supremes. You have to admit her experience was the same. Being repeatedly sold Bauers when they were not the right skate for her.

I was only replying to her and noticed she has wide flat high volume feet like me and thought the Tacks might work

Peter, I think what he meant by that line is that we are different than those LHS shops who just push people into Bauer product.

exactly

I was not speaking about you selling people the wrong skates or only selling Bauer. I know in the Tacks thread you openly stated that you sold many pairs of Tacks in your dy and had and have customers who benefit from the skate. Again sorry you thought I was insulting you, that was not my intention in any way

Can't we just be friends?

Thanks.

OK, we are having a snow storm starting now so I'm going to sleep! I was in the shop at 7AM today.

In your experience, what has been the best remedy for collapsed arches? I have found that insoles can resolve some discomfort but blade alignment really gave me the best result.

So MsConduct55 and her husband showed up for their appointment today. Skates fit well, but the minute she put them on, I had her stand and this is how it looked.

After shimming the skate (1/8" on both)...that little problem? Bye-bye.
