Easton Z-Air's need replacement .....

Recommended Posts

hello guys ,

.......about 5 years ago I started playing hockey again after a 10 year break

......being clueless about new skate technology I bought a pair of Z-Airs that were on sale and came with 2 free TPS response composite sticks ....too good of a deal to miss , I thought ....

....they turned out to be perfect in size, fit, reliabilityand performance ..no issues whatsoever .....last year they started comin apart and becoming softer ......but I tried vector 10's( too far back lean) and nike v 12( lacebite) , synergy 1500 ( overall feel) and didn't like any of them ., so I sikaflex'd and fixed the Z-airs for one more season

.....now , the more I read and know about skates theoretically ..the more confused I get !!! :(

...thought of going with the synergy 900 , as it is eastons traditionally constructed boot .....but would like to have sth lighter as my skating has improved a lot and I hope more improvement here ( or am I wrong ??)....... ......easton s 17 felt very good , just I think they overheated it in the shop when I tried them.... as they "flexed "very easily ....and I'm not sure if it was a pre-production demo .....

..any recommendations from your side ..for a foot that matched perfectly the Z-Airs ??????......9,5 EE

thx alot ...chris

if you dont like the composite boots of the synergy and stealth line, try one95's. i used to wear a pair of 9.5D easton z-air comp se's and am currently in a 9.0 D one95. worth trying on for definite, plus the baking process has a massive result (they feel like slippers!). they are stiff(very) and light so you should like them

thank you guys ...

I know there are a few Z-airs around , but only odd sizes and D widths ...and the silver , newer Z-Air comp is waay too stiff .....a buddy who is 240 lbs does fine in them ...but I only have 170lbs ....

yes , one 95 felt good in the store ..but had no chance to test them on ice ...are they stiffer than xxxx's ???

thx

..well ... the downside is that one 95's are about $ 850 here .......that's a lot of cash for a skate .......

..does anybody have expierience with the s 17 stealth so far ??? ... I like eastons runners and steel ....and the skate itself looks like being well built ..and I like the new toecap as well

one95s are stiffer than xxxx's. obviously you are keen on easton(i dont blame you i love their skates), try going for the new white out synergy se16's. they dont have the durability issues of previous composite skates and should be better in terms of stiffness if you dont like skates as stiff as you can get.

one95s are stiffer than xxxx's.

this was discussed a few times before & I belive the consensus was different:

in my opinion 40s are stiffer (the boot itself is stiffer - just try compressing it), plus they feel a LOT stiffer on ice

to me One95 doesn't have the same 'brick' feel 40s have

..thx ..so it narrows down to the xxxx's , one75 ( which is basically an updated one 90 , as I read here) ..and the se 16 !!!!

.. no one95 ..don't feel like spending 800 $ on a skate ....

...... does anybody know the difference between the SE 16 and SE 17 ...other than looks and toecap ???

X-Track being an Easton fan I'd normally say go for the SE-16 but I need to be imparital. I'd say go for the skate that you find fits you the best out of the ones you've mentioned and are interested in. Although the 16 is supposed to have solved the durability issues some of our members have experienced you won't know for sure until it's been out on the market for at least almost a year. At the moment it seems the Nike/Bauer skates are holding up the best overall on average and it seems a majority of the pros are wearing them, which must indicate the fit is pretty decent. I know you'll say yes, Nike/Bauer pays a lot of the pros to wear their brand ,but their still not going to wear a skate that doesn't fit decently and effects their game because after all, it's their living we're talking about here.

Bottom line, go with the brand that fits YOU the best, period.
