Oggie Grip

Oggie Grip - Long Term Wear

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Just looking to get some additional feedback to see how our Oggie Grips are holding up to long term wear. We've got a lot of product tester feedback, now looking for some good ole' ModSquad feedback.

I know this can be a totally loaded question, but we feel we need to do this because we're always looking to improve our products.

Also, general fit-up success stories and failures with the various manufacturer's sticks is also encouraged.

Please state whether you've tested our Ergo Grip, Classic Grip, or Sticky Grip Foam.

We value your feedback, good, bad, or indifferent.

Thanks,

Joe

The majority of mine are holding up great. I had one issue with one of them, that I believe i had been using for about 4 months, where the grip itself had separated from the structure of the Oggie......causing the grip to rotate. I hit it with a few hits of spray adhesive, and it solved the problem for about 4 games and occurred again. So it is a bit of an ongoing battle with that one grip. But as for my others.....going great and strong.

The only thing that I have had to to do to them is add a strip of friction grip to the tenon and lay glue down ontop of the tape to keep them solidly fixed inside of the shaft. I have found that over time I will start to pull the grip out of the shaft, and have noticed on multiple occasions that I would pull the grip up to 1/2" out of the shaft over the course of a game where I am taking a fair amount of shots. Since adding the tape to the tenon....they don't seem to move much at all.

Overall.....I love them, and have come to learn the nuances that are necessary to make them perform to their fullest potential.

I use the Oggie Ergo btw. B)

Thanks for the feedback. If you ship us your problem grip, we'll replace it with one of our custom pro-stock Ergo grips for free. Let us know your local LHS. We'll arrange to ship the grip there where you can pick it up. Our shipping address is on our website.

Joe

Whats the pro girp...I have the classic and Ergo...

Zach

These are pro-stock grips being made for pro and D1 college players only at this time. We figured that we release a handful to Mod members.

Any way to get one of your pro grips, Joe? I'm up to try new things, wasn't a fan of your current 2 offerings.

You could send us an e-mail from our website, and we can send one out to you.

I use exclusively Ergo grips. I've been using them for 3 or 4 years now. I have 3 of the regular grips and 1 prop-stock grip currently installed in sticks. I think I've purchased 5 grips total.

I have worn out 2 or 3 grips in my years of use. I typically wear the grip at the top on the front of the grip right at the top. ErgoBlack.gif Basically at the top left in this image. I hold the grip with that part just down into my palm on a regular basis while playing defense and the rubber wears off after a while.

The pro-stock grip I have has shown no wear since I got in December. Typically with the number of games it has seen, a regular grip would be showing some scuffing on the top spot but nothing on the pro-stock grip.

I'm happy with how much usage I get out of my grips, I have no idea exactly how many games I get, but I only have to buy a grip every year or so. I wear shafts out much faster. If I had to guess, I'd say I get 50-60 games before the ribs wear through the rubber. You can still use them at that point, but I usually replace them soon after that only for aesthetics.

I have installed my grips in at least a dozen shafts over the last few years. There are a few shafts where I've had to add tape to ensure a snug fit, but I have fewer issues with Oggies than I do with blades. Of the top of my head, I've had an Oggie in a Mission Pulse, Pulse II and Fuel, a TPS R2XN10, a Reebok 9K0, a Bauer TFG and an Innovative 1100. I had to add tape with Missions and the Bauer, IIRC.

I'm hooked on the Ergos and hate skating without one. I won't own a shaft or OPS without an Ergo in it.

I know this is offtopic, but have any of you guys trimmed up your grips? So like say on the classic, trimmed the buttend to be smaller? Can I do this or will it compromise the plug?

here is an image of my pair. Left has a few years, right is perhaps 3 months. But, from your perspective only the very butt end it true oggie, as they needed some girth and have tacki-macs as the main grip. considering my usage (3x per week) ... held up well.

Mine lasted 3 months (ergo.) I was hesitant at first about cutting my One95 and Kronik 6 inches from the length I like. It was a great!

Joe,

Could you post a picture of the pro-stock ergo? I don't see it on the web site and I think you mentioned that it is not available to the public. Thanks.

On the original ergo, I found it was just too small for my comfort. I tried applying some self fusing rubber temflex tape on top to increase the diameter and maintain a tacki -like texture/grip. Worked great a few times, then one day, the stick was left in the car with the grip in the sun. It seems there was a interaction between the grip and tape with the equivalent of dry rot occurring on the temflex and ergo, or perhaps it was just the sun. Either way, I cut the junk off and slid a tacki on over the rubber grip on the ergo ...been good since that day. With that success, when my second arrived, a tacki when right on that too. The down fall is the tip as shown in the image seems to wear and extra weight. I could move the tacki a bit to cover it. And if i was really worried about weight, I think switching for a wendys double to a single would make a greater difference.

The ergo works fine for me. I'm usually stuck back at D and really like the ergo as the stick seldom every leaves the hands. Can't say if I noticed any shot improvement, but i can say it didn't get worse. Bottom line is it feels good.

I'm not Joe, but here is my pro-stock Oggie grip with about 30 games of wear on it. Mind you most of the grime and wear you see is likely from tossing the stick in the back of my truck.

Thanks Neal. What's different from the traditional ergo grip?

It can be made in several different flexes, and modified in-house by Oggie for different profiles and sizes. They're one-offs as opposed to the retail offerings. I believe Joe is using feedback from these to widen his range of retail offerings as well.

Hey Joe,

I've used the Ergo grip for a while, with a shaft that was a little too short for my liking. It took a while to get one, as the LHS in Australia doesnt cover all these assessories (had to get someone I knew in the US to scout around and send one to me).

It worked out great, rubber grip lasted for quite a long time, and I think i started having similar with one of the other guys with the rubber grip rotating a little. I put some industrial double sided tape (3M) and its been going great. The double sided tape is only available to companies (not for retail), and I think its called 500lb tape or something like that.

The grip is a little too thin, so I've wrapped it with a few layers of normal blade tape.

Once this one goes, I think I'll get another one. Do you have plans to export this to Australia?
