Reebok 9K pump skates

Recommended Posts

I am currently checking out a pair of Reebok 9k pumps on ebay. What noticeable features determine that these are "pro stock"?

ALTHOUGH WHEN I BOUGHT THE SKATES I DID NOT RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY WITH THEM BUT I KNEW THEY WERE AS STATED CONSIDERING IT WAS FROM THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS EQUIPMENT SALE!

I hope it's these...he says he knows they are real!

http://cgi.ebay.com/SIDNEY-CROSBY-PRO-STOC...%3A1%7C294%3A50

The description is funny.

He said "HE DID NOT WEAR THEM IN A GAME HE TRIED THEM ON AND WORE THEM IN ONE PRACTICE THEN DECIDED TO GET A BIGGER SIZE. MANY NHL PLAYERS TEND TO SQUEEZE INTO SMALLER SKATES SO THEY GET MORE OF A FEEL OF THE SKATE."

I would tend to think the guys at Reebok had his size nailed down a few years ago.

What I don't understand is, if there is no certificate of authenticity, and they aren't signed, what makes them worth a grand?

I was at the Pens equipment sale last year. When you checked out you got a reciept from the Pens as to what you bought. Not a certificate of authenticity but might be something to prove the seller bought them at the sale. Also, if I remember correctly, there were no Crosby items (skates or gloves) for sale at the equipment sale. The Pens web site posted a list of the items for sale.

Here is the link:

I'd be very cautious before making this purchase unless the seller can come up with some better evidence.

Are they from a specific player or is the seller just advertising them as "pro stock". A different (felt) tongue could be an indication or if the holders have been changed. If they're from a player, look up pictures to see what skates they use and what kind of holders and tongues are on them. One other giveaway on alot of pro stock skates is a little sticker on the sole in between the front and rear tower of the holder. It will usually have the name of the player the skates were made for and the sizes (if the sizes for the skates are custom as in 8 1/4 or two different sizes this helps to confirm that they are pro stock). Other than that, the seller could just be capitalizing on the current obsession with pro stock/pro return equipment and throwing the lure out there hoping a sucker swallows it.

Aside from consmetic and performance changes listed above that are noticeable, I'd pm the seller and ask them the difference. You'll be able to tell by there message if they're full of bs or not. Or, considering everyone here loves gear, you could post a link and we could check it out?
