CCM Vector V10 Shaft with old school blade

Recommended Posts

After 7 years of abscence, I recently got back into hockey …

and it seems that, equipment wise, I missed a lot of development.

I got a very good deal on a CCM V10 shaft (long taper design to fit short hosel blades).

Without knowing I pulled the heat gun and attached one of my unused (Jofa) Titan ASD 23 blades,

which I used back in the days. But those are supposed to be "regular" blades.

The old blade fitted just perfectly into the new shaft and since then I played a couple of weeks with this combo.

So, how could an "old" blade fit into a "new" shaft?

Am I destroying the shaft, if I keep playing?

Thanks and happy Easter!

One end is standard, one is tapered. If you can see the taper to the shaft and the blade fit in it, I'm guessing it was a junior blade.

You can do whatever you want- You could take a picture so we can see it, or you can play it safe and just go buy a correct blade.

Rustspot, thanks for your help.

I uploaded some photos of the stick.

The blade is attached to the right (bottom) end and it's definitely not a junior/intermediate blade.

If you like it why not just keep it, im sure its not a big deal and it looks like it fits fine, but if you dont like it you could always pull it out and bring your shaft and find a new blade. Its completely up to you but i couldn't see it doing any harm.

i can kind of answer your question. use your heat gun and take the blade back out. When the shaft has cooled off, measure the inside diameter of the shaft. For tapered shaft the inside dimension is 14 mm x 26 mm. For standard shafts its 16 mm x 26 mm.

Looks like a tapered blade. They existed back 10 years ago and the dimensions really haven't changed (how old is the T-Flex?). Shaft isn't bulged out, you're A-OK.

i think the t-flex is more than 10 years old, but i don't think they had tapered short hosel blades back then ?

10 years ago only one manufacturer made tapered blades. Mission came out with short hoseled blades in 2001.

euro version of the vector 10.0 shaft is standard.

Hmmm, Europe … no speed limits, Amsterdam and regular V10 shafts.

That makes sense, somehow.

Everybody, thanks for your help!

holy smokes, I forgot about that. Now I remember Mission came out with the Flyweight shaft and "Ether" blade. $170 CDN for the Flyweight shaft and $80 for the Ether blade, the most expensive shaft/blade combo out there. Mission almost gave me a heart attack when I saw the price of the "Carbster" helmet too.

They were waaay ahead of their time and the price reflected it. Unfortunately the price and the name on the product hurt sales. I still find the Carbster to be the most comfortable helmet I own, it just needs some more airflow and I'd ditch the S9/VN Intake.

To me, it's pretty obvious that shaft isn't tapered from the pictures.
