Help me choose gloves

Recommended Posts

Eagles

I went to my LHS and tried every pair of eagles there and one thing was consistent, everytime i tried to grip the stick the palm would fold over in the middle of my hand and i was wondering if other people have noticed this because it seemed like they were all doing it.

Warriors

I actually liked the feel better then the eagles and there wasn't that fold over with the eagles. However after reading the reviews on this board i found that the Warriors aren't made as well? (single stitch vs. eagles double stitch).

XXXX

Overall the fit really good, stiffer then eagles or warriors but in a good way were they hug my hand. The one thing i was a little concerned about was the wrist mobility. Curious if anyone has taken some of that padding out or done any mods to the cuff?

Just any kind of feedback would be great.

Eagles :

Shouldn't have that issue with the PPF or the CP gloves. The MSH2 palms are the best....period

Warrior:

Customs....worth every penny. I don't do retail.

XXXX:

I have never had a wrist issue with them. A great glove but a tad too tight for me.

Can I start by saying thank you for trying them on, then asking for advice? Nice to see someone doing some homework =)

I've never had wrist mobility issues with my vapor xxxx's. It's certainly a slimmer cuff, but it's never been an impediment. The bottom part hinges well.

Warriors are over-rated. You hear all this hype about them, and yes it is true there a great glove i do like mine but there not worth the $300 price tag. I paid close to 300 for mine and i regret it, theres a lot better gloves out there and i would suggest taking a look at them, the warriors make me sweat really bad and the palms are only single stiched, thats true. Eagles are very well made, id look at a smaller size before i rule them out, i had a few pairs and they were all fantastic well made and usually quite a bit cheaper then the warriors. Another glove i would look at would be the bauer 4 rolls, they feel a bit weird at first but once you break them in there amazing, for about $100. They are a pro level glove with great protection and undeniable style. Just get out there and try on lots of gloves, see what you like what suits you and whats in your price range. If your bent on the fanciest most expensive gloves out there warriors are for you but if your looking for a little more function honestly i coudlnt say id recommend them. They'd be a lot better glove if they were $150.

i agree on the warriors (franchises) being over rated, but take a look at the old fubar (i got mine for $65 around new years.) extreme comfort there if youre into a looser fit - but then again if youre liking the xxxx you may not be.

im a pretty big fan of the xxxx too but cant get used to the tighter fit after using my fubars. i know a player who cut their cuffs on the xxxxs for the same mobility issues and he still wears them after our season ended.

I think leafsrule has it right though, look into some bauer four rolls. awesome gloves

Eagles PPF. You get to love them

I had the same problem you are describing with the PPF's. The palm felt like it was folding over in the middle of the glove but after a few games it stopped doing it. The MSH2 palm is amazing! My vote would def be for Eagles!

I was pretty set on getting the XXXX but maybe i have to go back and try them again with the Eagles, i will take your guys word on the franchise and not get them because wear and tear is all based on experience.

The difference is i can get the XXXX for 170cad, franchise 200cad, all Eagles are 200cad+

So are PFF's the based bang for your buck Eagles?

I noticed i was trying alot of PFF and PPF+ but not sure how many PFFi's, maybe that would be the difference because in XXXX i was wearing 15's and in Franchise i like 13's better then 14's.

I have Vapor XXXX Pro's (the nylon ones) They are super light, very mobile, very short cuff. TRied on the regular Vapor XXXX and they were stiff and a lot less mobile. XXXX pro's palms have held up 7 months just fine. Best gloves I've ever owned. Until yesterday. I bought Eagle ppf's just as a second pair. Palms feel amazing. Haven't used them on the ice yet. They do fit looser than the XXXX, mostly through the fingers/palm. Both gloves are awesome. I have only tried on the retail warriors in the store and wasn't impressed.

Ppf's are quite a bit better then the warriors, i own warriors now and if i didnt pay so much for them id go out and buy new gloves, i dont like them a whole lot. The vapor xxxx pro's are pretty comfy but the protection is lacking, try the 4 rolls you wont regret it. There $90 online some places, wont find them for more then 120

K i went back to compare today and the PPFi are just slightly to small where my fingers are poking over the top, PPF just feel a little to loose but i think they are a great glove but i guess its one of those things where they just aren't my style.

I tried the XXXX pros and noticed i liked them better then the regular XXXX.

Right now i think its going to be between the XXXX pros and 4-rolls, which were alright but i have to go back for something else so im going to do one more comparison.

If you are borderline with the eagles between the 13" and 14" versions, you may want to try 13" bauer 4-rolls because they run pretty roomy.

I'd say go with the Warriors. I am a Warrior Franchise glove whore and to me nothing beats that glove. Not sure what someone was talking about when they said they paid $300 for Warriors. The most ive ever charge anyone for a custom pair of Warriors was $210 and that was because they had custom print put on the cuffs. Warriors customer service and turn around time is top notch!!!

4 rolls are extremly roomy i wear a size 13 glove in ccm 14 in ONE90's and the size 12 4rolls are to ong in the fingers and slightly too large in the hands.

CT, next time I order a pair of custom franchises I'm going through you if I can swing it. Mine ran me $260... I absolutely love my gloves, but i feel like I got upcharged to no end by the pro shop I went through. $210 , sir, you are a prince.

I would go with the Franchises if you play full contact I hear the XXXX don't offer very much protection, 4rolls have awesome protection but they are really roomy and don't really fit well. It al up to your PP I suppose.

I know exactly what you mean by the sizing difference between the eagles. I ended up with the 14", and they are clearly too big. I used my supreme 70's instead. I am also looking for replacement gloves, and I would suggest the bauer 4 rolls. For their price, you cannot beat them.

Custom warriors. Pro inserts, my own colors, my name on them and number, fast ship was another $40 or 50 too, forgot to add that on there

Warrior franchise retail are NOT the same glove you get when you get custom's.

If you go franchise eat the $ and go custom you wont regret it.

Retail is a terrible glove.

This is what i ended up buying.

Antoine Vermette Pro Returns when he played for the Sens (Not sure if he actually used 40's because i always see him with SWD), i got them because they are the size i want (14") with a 1" shortened cuff.
