Boostinmister2 16 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 I'm looking for shoulder pads that have decent protection, good mobility, and not BULKY. My first pads were the old Sherwoods everyone has, those were good until my messed up my shoulder. So I got a pair of Easton S17's and they're just too bulky for my taste. I come out looking like a football player. What would you guys recommend? Something under $100 Thanks
Jarick 5 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Check out the Vapor XXV or XXXX...higher protection and lower profile. Also pretty adjustable.
xstartxtodayx 343 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Give the CCM Vector series a try, they look like they have some good protection and seem to be lower profile. I'm hoping to try a pair of those on soon b/c I'm in the same boat as the OP, looking for something protective but low profile.

HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 The Easton ST line is relatively low profile. If you go to this page, there's a video for the ST4's and the ST6's that shows the guy wearing them, so you can see what they look like. I have the ST4's from last year and they're pretty nice. Good protection for a cheap price. Let's face it though, unless you wear something with basically no protection, you're going to look like a linebacker. Even as lowprofile as the Sherwood 5030's are, you can still tell people are wearing them.

Love the 5030's for their mobility and low-profile look, but I've been hurting my shoulder a lot recently due to it having basically no protection for the deltoid area. Chadd 916 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Check out the warrior pads, I'm a big fan of their new shoulders.

GoWings85 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 I'm seriously considering those ST4's now...looks like a great low-profile pad! I took the shoulder caps off of my NBH Classics so it's just the foam now and it's not even as low-profile as those Eastons are. I won't even go into the protective differences... <_<
Invert 13 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 I use these, http://www.hockeyworld.com/prodHome.ihtml?...mp;sterm=cooperThe shoulder caps are a bit big, but everything else is very light. Nice old school pad for a No-check league.
Jarick 5 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Well looks like you got recommendations for just about every single pad out there, so time to hit the shop and try them on!
Boostinmister2 16 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Thanks for all the help guys and thanks HattrickSwayze, I went with the ST6 after seeing both videos. My S17 uses the plastics around the neck that covers your traps and the ST6 uses it as well with a lower profile. I would have went with the ST4 if it had that. Also if anyone else is buying anything from icewarehouse.com, put the code "twitter5" and you get a 5% discount =)
HattrickSwayze 3 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Nice, I think you'll be happy with them. They're pretty low profile once you've got them on. You still get a bit of the linebacker look, but that's inevitable with anything other than the skimpiest of shoulder pads. A word on sizing; I'm about 6'1, 170, and I'm wearing a small in the ST4's. They seem to run a bit big, and going with a small fit me the best. The mediums weren't a whole lot bigger, but the smalls were more low profile and fit better around the neck and shoulders. In the video at IceWarehouse, the guy is wearing a size small as well. The shop I got them at didn't have the ST6's otherwise I probably would've gotten those instead, just for the (presumably) better padding over the chest. I ordered a Medium. I'm 5'10 and weigh 177. Hopefully it won't be so bad.
