Help with One55 sizing

Recommended Posts

At the LHS, they measured me for skates; I am an 8 NBH. They say that I am between a D and EE width. They are recommending that I go with a D width as they say they will spread out from baking. I am interested in opinions on what to do. I tried a one75 in an EE width and they felt perfect. The one55 in a D pinches my pinky toes a bit, they didn't have an EE one55 for me to try.

So my questions to those that know about these skates is, if I go with the one75 EE width feeling good, after I bake them will they potentially be too wide? In general how much wider do the one55 and one 75's get after baking?

I have weird feet in that I have regular width heels and my toe area seems to be very wide.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Baking doesn't spread the skates per se, it just allows the boot to conform to the shape of your foot. So it won't get any wider after baking unless your foot is stretching it.

I read in one of the threads that the one75 EE and D both have the same heel width and only the toe area differs. Anyone know if that is the case?

Have you experienced any boot slop with the wider width after break in?

You want the skate to fit as tight as possible while still being comfortable. After baking, the skate will fit better than previously in most cases. I'm also a cross between a D/E width..In fact, I wear a "Wide" in almost all Graf skates along with Mission skates.

Boot slop is detrimental to your skating ability. I even went down a size..from 9.5 in my One55 Supremes to a size 9 in my Vapor XXXXs and they feel great.

I think for most people who are in between widths, they should stay at "D" and get them baked. Going up a width and getting them baked will create boot slop for me.

I guess I a being extra cautious. I have had a couple of pairs of mission skates that hurt me a little before baking and did not improve at all after baking. They won't take skates back after they have been baked, so I am trying t get it right the first time.

The Mission skates fit NOTHING like the Bauer skates.

The One55s have more volume than anything Mission has put out to my knowledge.

Baking doesn't spread the skates per se, it just allows the boot to conform to the shape of your foot. So it won't get any wider after baking unless your foot is stretching it.

Misleading.. we're talking about internal fit..not the structure of the boot

I am aware that they fit differently, that's why I am asking for opinions.

What is misleading about Darshu's post?

Thanks,

The area I seem to have the problem with on the one55 is right where the toe cap joins the skate on the outside of the boot. It doesn't feel like there are any materials in that spot that would adjust after baking.

I guess I will have to drive to the shop this weekend and try them both on again.

Thanks for the comments.

Just got One75s

I do not like to get my skates baked - I'm a borderline D/EE. Also could be in a 9.5. I got 9D. So they're a really snug fit.

Been on the ice twice (wear them around the house too) second time they felt better than the first and the next time will be better than the last. I just tie the bottom of the boot really loose but make sure to tie my heel in tight. I'll gradually tie them tighter and tighter as the break in - I figure 10 or so ice times to get them just right.

I know it's personal preference, but I always get my skates as small as possible, then break them in the old fashioned way.

I really love the skate and it's no where near broken in yet.

The heel size of the one55 and one 75 are different if I remember correctly. You have to have a narrow heel to wear the one75, especially if you don't bake them.

I tried both on again, including the EE width one75. The heels in both widths and both skates (55 and 75) felt the same. The toe area and mid foot (arch) area was was wider in the EE width. Everything about the EE width was great for me except the mid foot area which was too wide. So, I ended up with the one55 in D width which after baking seems to also be fine.

The only problem I have now is with the holders/sharpening. I sharpened the litespeed steel at 1/2", the same way I sharpen my mission pitch steel. However, I don't have the same glide as I did with the missions. Is this due to quality differences int he steel or holder angles?

Any ideas?
