inine girdle for ice?

Recommended Posts

I've tried searching a few different terms/word combinations but didn't come up with anything.

I'm wondering if anyone has used inline girdles for beer league ice hockey. I'm currently wearing a pair of stripped down ice pants now, and was wondering if an inline girdle might provide more protection without sacrificing too much weight or being too restrictive. My main area of concern is protecting the fronts of my legs from shots and skating through stick checks.

I've never used any inline-specific equipment before other than skates. I'd welcome any suggestions of specific girdles that are light and not restrictive and fit bigger guys (I'm 6'1 230 with very big lower body).

Thanks in advance for the help!

this has already been discussed many times with the consensus being that inline gear is not suited for ice (with possible exception of lacross shoudler pads but then again - it's not inline :))

I got One95 girdle recently for the very same reason you're asking - less weight, more mobility (downgraded from XXX lite pants)

I'm not as big as you are (5'11, 205) but I fit comfortably in medium (XXX lites were XL! B) )

I'm pretty sure you'll be fine with L as it's all lycra & so stretches

I did happen to catch a wrister on a side of my leg where supposedly the padding is the thickest (same as on the front) & I felt it - no bruise or anything like that, but still. Inline girdle would leave me with a bruised up leg.

to compare I'd feel nothing in my pants as I happened to block a slapper before on many occasions & didn't feel a thing!

Thanks for the tip. Perhaps I searched the wrong terms, or haven't been around long enough to see the older discussion.

Yeah, definitely don't do it -- there are some decent ice girdle options that aren't too restrictive, but there really aren't any high-impact inline girdles out there I'd want to take a slapshot wearing.

I have been wearing a cheap Gear inline girdle for the past 3 years. It is very light and comfy. 2 weeks ago though, I bought a pair of Reebok 7k pants. While I never suffered any injury due to the girdle, I decided to go with more protecton. I went with a cage last year after a few hits to the grill and I am going to address the upper body soon.

While I wouldn't recommend it, I did wear one for a while without any injury.

I wear a Bauer XR-Lite inline girdle and a pant shell. It may not offer much protection, but it is an upgrade over the pair of sweatpants and an ancient, half rotten Canadien Cooperall style girdle that was all I wore for years.

I echo what others say, but I often dont listen to my advice. I have been know to wear a roller hocker girdle in lower leagues and pick up.

Will work in a pinch but most def recommend an ice girdle. Ice specific girdle/pant will give you more confidence to take and received that hit or fall

I have used my Bilt Rite wrap girdle during a beer league ice hockey game. While I noticed the lightness of the girdle, I also noticed the various unprotected areas as compared to my ice hockey pants. On top of that, the areas that were covered and protected were not done so to the degree that I prefer. I was able to withstand several weak wrist shots but shuddered at the thought of stepping in front of slapshots of the better players. I went back to my ice hockey pant the next game and it stayed that way since.

I too use an inline Franklin girdle for ice, mainly because I'm just getting into ice and haven't picked up pants yet. I've actually never worn any ice hockey pants, but I would say that my inline one is not very protective. I actually think its over protective for inline but no where near protective for ice. It severely lacks good padding in the tail bone and hip areas. I'm hoping that if i pick up new ice pants those will provide a lot more protection...
