Juice_Slowjamz 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2004 I'm seriously considering buying one of these things. I'm just wondering if current owners are happy with them. FYI- If I buy one, its going to be the 20GB one.
Stampeder 2 Report post Posted September 22, 2004 Im pretty sure it's the exact same thing, just with a different dock. Should be just as good as the normal apple.

2048 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2004 Their MP3 player, the NetWalkman or whatever it's called does look nice. The battery looks to be the best feature. Thing is, they have some crazy ass format that you have to convert all your MP3s to. It's not the end of the world or anything, but it is really annoying. Especially when all other mp3 players actually play mp3s.
mack 44 Report post Posted September 22, 2004 ATRAC or something like that? That's what they did on the MD players and it is a pain, but I'd take the extra time that took for the extra battery life.

mack 44 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 You can use whatever program you want to get MP3s to your computer and to get them on the iPod you can use USB or FireWire if your computer has it.

mack 44 Report post Posted October 7, 2004 No problem. It'll also put iTunes on your computer which will of course sway you to buy songs, but I just use it to manage playlists and transfer songs.

ambro 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 Anyone know if there's any differences between the Apple and the HP iPods? Other than what Stampeder said in the first reply?
tokes 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 Anyone know if there's any differences between the Apple and the HP iPods? Other than what Stampeder said in the first reply? Hardware wise they are identical. Physically the HP one has a small HP logo above the apple logo. Software and support wise the HP iPod only includes the windows software, and the HP ipod has much better support. With the apple version you get a 1 year warranty and 90 days of free phone support, and if you need repairs it's 30 bucks for shipping and handling. With the HP it's one year of 24/7 phone support and the warranty. HP's tech support for windows is supposed to be VASTLY superior to Apple's tech support (I would hope so, I can attest to how bad it is after spending about 3 hours on the phone with apple tech support) and you can take your ipod into any best buy, or other HP retailers for service, whereas with apple you need to go to an official apple store. If you have a mac you pretty much have to get the apple one, because HP does not offer customer support if you use theirs with a mac, and they don't even have mac software bundled with it. If you have a PC, go for the HP ipod. The only reason I got an apple ipod is because I got a student discount through the university, and it ended up being a good bit cheaper for the apple version. Thockey17 1 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 college students are eligible for a student discount through they're school. My brother got $30 off an Ipod.
mack 44 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 I think it's $30 across the board, but a couple schools have even given them to incoming freshmen. They had a good deal going if you bought an iBook and iPod from your school's program though.
Thockey17 1 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 I think it's $30 across the board, but a couple schools have even given them to incoming freshmen. My friend that goes to Duke got one for free, because they (duke) wanted the freshmen to stay technologically involved.A couple people i know got more than $30 for a student discount, but i think its because their school(s) depend alot of apple.
