RBK vs CCM Pants

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, did a search but couldn't find any info that I was looking for.

I was wondering what you guys recommend for pants that fit the criteria of: LOTS of tailbone and back protection, Good amount of hip protection, longer than most (I'm 6'5"), durable, light & mobile.

I know I'm asking a lot from a pant, especially considering I'm hoping to spend around $75, but am willing to go up to $90 or so if its worth the upgrade. I play in an adult non-checing beer league but am not very solid on my skates yet so take a lot spills, mostly on my tailbone/butt.

I haven't tried any on yet but have heard really good things about the CCM v06 and v08 as well as the RBK 5k, 6k, & 7k. Also have heard Eastons are tanks but don't know much about them. So out of these pant which would you choose or recommend? Is it worth the extra money for the higher models?

Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions! :D

If we were talking PRO STOCK CCM520 VS RBK 520 PRO STOCK - the RBK is lighter with a better lining. Technically the pants are the same.

Wish I could get a pair of Tackla's but they are out of my price range. How protective are your 7k's? Also do they run a bit longer given that I have really long legs?

I just got a pair of these CCM 892 Tacks and I'm loving them but sizes are pretty slim as they are no longer made

http://www.hockeyworld.com/prodHome.ihtml?...olorx%20-shopx1

So far they've offered excellent protection but could still use a little breaking in.

Those def look nice and I've heard great things about the 892's but unfortunately they don't have my size or color :\

Also the Pro Stock 520's are really nice too but they are out of my price range...

7ks are great...great mobility/protection...i think they run a bit wider most rbks do i think...coz a m usually starts at 32" but i think rbk starts at 33" or 34" i have to tighten the belt real hard but i'm 6" and its perfect length

Go with either, middle of the line or up. Both brands very protective and solid. Go figure, same company essentially.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the CCM V06's or V08's. Anybody think that the V08's might be too much pant for a non-checking adult league???

I thought that and bought a pair of Vapor XXVs. Then I got tripped and fell right on my tailbone, where there was no hard plastic protection, just some light padding. I had a hard time getting into or out of a chair for a week.

Yeah, the Vapor series has lousy tailbone protection. I have the Vapor XX-lite, which is basically the same as the XXV I believe, and the tailbone protection consists of just a 1/2" piece of soft foam. I don't fall hard on my ass very often, but the few times that I did, I couldn't sit comfortably for days. I'm probably going to upgrade to some CCM or Warrior pants soon.

Yea, good point guys. I think I'ma go for the CCM V08. Just wish Hockeymonkey would get their limited edition model in stock soon! Called them and they said they have no idea as to when they'll be available <_<

Hey guys, just found the Nike Bauer XXX Lite Pants for $75! Damn good price, but even though they are more than half off of retail, I still think the V08's are more protective from what I have read. Any thoughts?

RBK pants fit a bait wider than CCM pants....

I have the RBK 5k's and i love them....not too bulky, tailbone protection is good and very comfartable pant overall.

Why buy those when you can buy Tackla?

The good Tackla's are min of $130...

And I ended up buying the V08's tonight. Pretty excited, they seem like they are really well built and very protective. Not sure about their mobility considering the thigh pads are a single piece but hopefully they are good in that department as well. :)

I have to agree with Kunal...I think the 5K are great for their price point.

I ended up with those RBK NCAA stock pants from the hockey shop, I love them, they feel like a clone of my old CCM Supra pants, but with zippers, so its extra awesome.

Can't go wrong with the 5K's or higher or the V6 or higher. Great pants for a decent price.

I think I've posted this in a few different topics now, but I'm a big fan of this for increased back protection, especially since I'm a bit on the tall side myself:

Extended back protector

Might help add some of the protection you're looking for.

(Edited link, sorry)

Thanks for posting that. I would def be interested in getting that if the spine protector on the v08 isn't solid, but from what i've seen and heard its supposed to be pretty good. Just out curosity, how did you hook that up to your current pants? or do you attach it to your chest protector?

I personally don't use it, but I know it would hook to shoulder pads and not pants. I could see connecting it to a pair of suspenders, too, if you don't normally wear shoulders.

I've seen pros with extensions on the backs of their pants, too, and I think they're usually made by Tackla. No link or anything for that one though, sorry.
