Cold Rinks

Recommended Posts

outdoor rinks are the most fun though, hands down, there's something so pure about playing the game outside

for me its ebersole in white plains, ny...was my high school team rink..its only got a roof, and on a cold january day it can get to -15/-20...they always have a doctor on hand to check you at the high school games to make sure your not getting frost bite anywhere...even though it was the coldest, it was def. the most fun...

I guess you'd have to be from Nefoundland to understand mine but in order:

1) Clarenville Stadium- spit freezing onto your cage and if your wearing a visor the steam actually froze onto it.

2) Cox's Cove - Natural ice rink.. pretty damn cold

3) The old Hodder Mem. Complex in Deer Lake- before they did the renovations for the winter games a few years back but man.. beautiful ice and it still is the same way.

in montreal, bonaventure and montreal west.

in michigan, battle creek

in ma, every prep school i ever played against lol

I can confirm about Bonaventure in Montreal, definitely the coldest i've played at. You see your own breath and your lungs hurt, it's that cold and it's indoors too. Once I forgot my under-garments and was using one of those perforated practice jerseys. Wow I frickin froze until my body adjusted to it.

On the other hand the ice is very quick and the puck never gets bouncy.

do you skate there often? shinny?

Red Bank Armory in Red Bank, NJ. place stays nice and chilly inside even in those hot and humid jersey summers.

How about across the river at Navesink CC, back in the day (before Al Gore invented global warming).

warnako in NJ. 1/2 out door rink. and we had a game in the dead of January i believe it was about 15 degrees. frose my tush off with underarmor warm gear on

Lightweight... LOL!

I think we need to split this thread up to the coldest indoor rinks and/or coldest outdoor rinks because any outdoor or 1/2 outdoor rink at 5:30am will win this discussion hands down!

Believe it or not the coldest rink I've been in is Ice Town in Riverside , CA. The place is an ice box. It is way colder than any rink we've been in including Alaska, Colorado and Michigan.

I think Simi Valley has Riverside beat, especially with early morning games.
