Vapor XXXX blade versus Dolomoite HD blade

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a chance to compare the two?

I love the Dolomite 75 flex, it's lasted me a full year and is still shooting rockets. I even had a slash take a big chunk out of the top of the blade right near the hosel last December, and the thing is still quite stiff.

I'd like to get a new 75 flex Dolomite, but I would like to try a blade with better feel that hopefully doesn't give up too much durability. It seems a lot of folks liked the feel of the Vapor XXXX OPS, so I was thinking about that blade. But I know Warrior came out with the HD blade and JR gave it a thumbs up review.

So any feedback on the durability of the XXXX or feel of the Dolomite HD?

I have a HD blade, but I have yet to use it much. I'll fill you in when I can. It does not seem to have the "feel" that my One95 blade has, but we'll see

Okay, picked up a Dolo HD blade today and put it in a new Dolo shaft. First impressions, it seems a bit lighter. Stickhandling with a golf ball, it seems to absorb the energy and "feels" more solid like wood whereas the older Dolo feels like it vibrates with energy and the ball bounces off. I believe it made a difference, as I could stickhandle easier and not lose the ball as easily. Hopefully this continues on the ice!

I'll also mention the Mission pro stock blades felt a little clunky to me. I think I like a blade that's a little lively, so maybe this new Dolomite will be the perfect combo.

The mission pro stocks I have seen have all been very very good quality. Keep in mind the thickness, weight, and design of the mission prostocks varies wildly based on the characteristics requested by the player for which they were made. It may just be that the prostocks you had were thicker with more dampening. A good example that comes readily to mind is Andrew Brunette - he plays with pretty thick blades with a lot of damping since he does a lot of chip shots and work down low. It's easier to settle bouncing / rolling pucks and very hard, short passes with a blade that has more dampening. Conversely, a more "lively" blade as you put it transfers more vibration which can be both good and bad. You get direct transfer of feel which can help, but excess vibration can make the stick feel pingy and sloppy and makes it easier for hard passes and rolling pucks to bounce of your blade.

So, I guess just keep trying stuff until you find the right balance.

My XXXX blade fits fine in my Dolo shaft. The XXXX blades have the real thin taper on them, so it doesn't butt right up against the end of the shaft, and have a smooth OPS-look like if you were to use a Dolo blade. If that makes sense, that is.

I don't think the XXXX has all that great of a feel to it. It feels kinda dead compared to my Harrow blade I'm using now. It doesn't feel soft, it just doesn't give the same feel as the Dolomite or Harrow blades. It's like it's dampening all the feel/vibrations.

It is the Brunette blade, so maybe that's it :)

I do love those Harrow blades, great durability, a lot like a more responsive Mission pro stock.

Just purchased a brand new Kovalchuk HD this week, first game out today the blade shattered at the bottom in the middle of the blade. No warranty on blades...

Do the Vapor XXXX blades fit well in the Dolo shafts?

I have a Vapor XXXX blade that's been implanted in a Dolo for a few months now, and not by my choice. I've tried every remedy posted on here to no avail, it was always a bit of a struggle to get swap in and out, but for whatever reason it's very comfortable in there now.

Just got off the phone with Warrior and they authorized the warranty for the blade. Didn't have to haggle them about it at all, the person I spoke to was very helpful. Thank you Warrior!

Great to hear. I know from many years of retail there's always some leeway and typically a company or store will eat a little bit of defective product in order to keep the customer happy, assuming it's clearly the company or stores fault.

First game with the Dolo HD blade tonight, felt awesome. Definitely better feeling than the regular Dolo, more solid, knocks down the pucks and passes a little more, but still has that stiff and rigid Dolomite feel. Seems like a winner.
