Check out the thread on the Ice Hockey tailored weight-lifting (that could help with agility, power, and speed), and then beyond that you can only really get better at skating by actually practicing it as much as possible. Probably the best thing would be foot speed drills with cones and plyometrics.

I'm thinking about making a slideboard of some sort.

I've been doing power cleans, romanian deadlifts, and squats this off-season. I'm thinking of doing some plyometrics later.

This site from Notre Dame athletics demos a bunch of olympic lifts with good technique, so this can help a bit in getting started in the gym:

Here's some hockey based pylo workouts (the images are really cheesy but they get the point across): http://www.maximumhockey.com/plyometricexercise

Here's some hockey strengthening tips:

Let me know if you need/want more, hope this helps you guys along your way

I did 4 things last summer that really improved my speed. The first was a weight exercise, I put a 25 lb weight on my back and did slow steps, alternate legs. I got that from a USA Hockey video. Second, do leg press or squat.

Most importantly, is sprints. Every day I would go into a raquetball court and do sprints. I would alternate by doing 5 back and forth and resting(helps endurance as well as speed) or if you just want explosiveness do the sprint then walk backwards to where you started and do another sprint.

Increase your workload week by week. Week 1 I did 10 sprints a day and I eventually worked my way up to doing 70 sprints on some days.

My next helpful hint is running on the treadmill. Do 10 min, and increase the speed on the mill to as high as you can take it for the last min.

Do these and you will become the fastest guy on your team and people will be amazed at your results. Thats what happened with me.

Good luck!

The summer before my sophomore year my team would do off ice circuit training twice weekly in our coaches garage. Most of the movements were really simple, but combined with a once weekly skating clinic we all improved alot. All we did was

Wall sets

Russian box ( http://web.mac.com/workouts/iWeb/OutsideTh...RussianBox.html )

Box push offs

Squat jumps with a medicine ball

Jump rope

We'd do 30 seconds on 30 seconds off until for three times and change exercises, then do the entire workout twice.

I wore an old pair of skates in my back yard and ran around doing crossovers towards my weak side and it helped a bit, it was mainly a confidence issue though

I have a drill I use to build off ice explosiveness and I find it works really well.

Start in a wide stance with your whole body facing one way. Then sprint as fast as you can to one end of your driveway forwards then run as fast as you can back do this repeatedly until you are to tired to do it take a short break and repeat.

Doing squat jumps is a good way to build overall leg strength. You can look up the proper technique on Youtube.
