Question about blades and 2 peices

Recommended Posts

I recently bought my first 2 peice stick, s15(zbubble) shaft and an st blade. ive been used to playing with a ops one90 and really liked the puck feel and overall feel of that sticks. i have gone from a naslund to a heatly curve, so the lie is quite a bit different, but ive noticed with the s15 i have much less feel for the puck than i did with the one90. it feels very numb, and as a mediocre stickhandler, i need the feel of the puck on my stick to reassure me its there so i can keep my head up and make decisions with the puck.

my question is, is this just a side effect of using a 2 peice stick? or would i have better puck feel if i went to a nicer blade like a one95 or s15 blade instead of the st blade? because so far im not really liking the stick. im much less confident with it and my game is suffering because of it.

I can't speak on the behalf of the Easton ST blade, but I use the Easton S15 blade in an AK 27 shaft, and I love it. It does take a little time to get used to a 2-piece if you have been using a one piece for a while. I actually prefer the feel of a 2-piece having been using it for a little over a season. Feel free to correct me, but I believe the ST's selling point is it's durability or toughness, as opposed to the S17 which is a performance based blade. I am in no position to tell you what to do with your money, but I would consider picking up more of a performance blade if the feel is bothering you that much. Or, it could just be an adjustment period, and you should just give it some more time.

for me, i feel a little more control with a two piece set-up compared to pretty much every other OPS except the S17, which i've found has given me TONS of feedback. that being said, i think roscoe kind of nailed the ST's purpose, you give up a little bit of performance (feel) for toughness/durability. Right now one of my two piece set-ups is the same shaft you're using, except, like roscoe i'm using an S15 blade.

i've also got a former Salo pro stock CNT OPS paired with a Synergy Pro wood blade, which i use when i'm playing defense, and i absolutely love the performance there... although i feel the weight difference and it throws off the balance a little.

so, you're comparing a two piece stick with a blade built for durability and a shaft built for performance with a top of the line performance OPS.... which will always skew the results. it's best to compare apples to apples.

For me I find that there is no difference in performance when it comes to shooting and feel when it comes to 2piece vs OPS. The only difference I can tell is that OPS load up more 'uniformly' as opposed to the two piece if that makes any sense.

same here. I can't notice a huge difference going from a OPS to a 2 piece.

OPS:

Rbk 4k

Rbk 7k Sickick

Rbk 9kO

2P:

Easton ST 85 flex w/ Easton ST Heatly

NBH One95 96 flex w/ NBH One?? Malkin (its a wooden blade, not sure exactly what model)

Going from a 6 lie to a 5 lie could be screwing you up as well. If you usually skate with the puck a little closer to your feet then someone with a 5 lie normally would and have a good handle on it there, then go to a 5 lie and still handle the puck the same way then it could feel a little weird. Anywhere from the heel to the middle of the blade may not be in contact with the ice (check if the tape toward the toe is wearing quicker then the rest), so you're not getting the whole puck on the blade; thus not giving you the best puck feel.

Kind of tough to explain, but it could make the adjustment to your two piece feel more awkward. Maybe throw in a blade with a 6 lie and see if that makes a difference.

could be the fact that none of the ops you have are known for puck feel.

I haven't used an Easton blade I've liked since the original Ultra Graphite blades. They just haven't felt as good as other brands for the most part for me.

I don't see how anyone notices a difference as most OPS are just 2-Pieces with graphics covering the seam/fuse point.

For me the fused OPS feel the same as 2-piece. OPS with the joint in the blade feel a bit more hollow and lighter weight. 2-piece with wood blades feel a bit more solid.

One of the best combos I've ever used in my life is a One95 shaft paired with an AK27 blade. I liked it even more than my One95 ops to be honest.. the feel was better which is pretty much #1 on my list.
