My S17 sounds like a Maraca

Recommended Posts

This question has more to do with what I should do regarding warranty swap-out.

So, I caved in & purchased an S17. The one thing I always do is check the stick out, obviously, before purchasing it for cracks or any worn out areas on the blade. About two days ago, I took a few slap shots to test out this "TORX" stuff Easton is chirping about. Pretty neat... I must admit the stick is real consistent with the power.... But I still prefer my ONE95's :)

None the less though, The s17 is a great stick.... Until I noticed a sound coming from the blade of the stick. It sounded like a little pebble rolling around between the blade all the way to the blue graphic part of the hosel. This only happens if I shift the stick up-side down and ride side up. Now... I had practice yesterday morning and was rocketing off one timers with it & today I notice more little pebbles running around in there.... Sounds like pieces are chipping off slowly internally in the blade. You can shake it and hear about 6 little pieces now.

My question now - Will Easton Warranty this out? or do I have to break this junk before I can file for a warranty exchange? The stick is only about a few days old... At the most it's a week old. I don't want to hold on to this stick and have it break on day 31.

Sounds like something that will trigger replacement, contact Easton and they will walk you through the process.

Since I've never dealt with warranties via hockey, do I just give their warranty line a call and follow steps? - In advance, what will I need to qualify for a warranty swap out?

sometimes bits of dried glue and other materials can get either get trapped in the shaft of the stick, or are stuck to the sidewalls and get shaken loose during use. try taking the end cap off the stick, and shaking it with it facing down. maybe this is all the problem is...? if that doesn't work, then i'd try contacting easton's customer service department. best of luck.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I'm going to give Easton's warranty a ring tomorrow morning after practice. I'll keep this thread updated. I'm really hoping they don't give me any shinanigans, lol. Regardless if it is just glue that shook loose... This is not to be expected from a 240$ stick ;-x

Luke, I tried to do that. The s17 shaft has two pieces fused into one for the shaft. Between the blade and the "E" graphic ( Blue graphic - Or red if you have the grip ) I turned the stick up side down to shake out pieces causing the rattling but the pieces seem to come to a stop around that blue graphic of the S17.

i seen those s17's pinned to the sale wall with 40 % off at my lhs. was thinking id give it a try because its such a sweet stick. sad thing is i dont have 200 plus to blow on a stick that wont last. so ill just wait around for the s19 hopefully they fixed the problems.

Also you might want to take off the cap, because on my warrior kronik the cap broke and it was rattiling. The stick was fine tho

The reason the rattle stops around the Torx logo is a piece of foam that's there. I had the same problem, got a warranty replacement and it did the same thing. So I straightened out a wire hanger and dug out the foam. It was just dry glue pieces rattling.

hey CS,

When you did that with the wire coat hanger to pluck out the foam in the TORX section... It didn't effect the stick at all in any way? I mean, did it still have the same effect the S17 is suppose to dish out without some of that foam u chipped away to get the dry glue that shook loose, out?

Ya this is definitely not pieces of glue... The more I use it, the more bits and pieces I hear rattling around in there. It really does sound like the blade is splitting away from the foam/glue. I flexed the stick today in a quiet room and a sound that sounded like foam rubbing up against something was coming from the blade... Which was the same sound I heard from my warrior blade just before it broke.

time for a swap out.
