Thoughts about the TPS PTC

Recommended Posts

I really like the TPS stick, but I haven't ever used one of their PTC sticks.

Does having 3 flex zones do anything for you?

I still use my XN-10 shaft from 2005 today so I really tend to use allot of TPS sticks.

Bauer had a tri-flex stick some time ago and it was my favorite stick after the XN-10 until it bit the dust.

So is the TPS PTC stick any good or just a gimmick?

It's good, but the new stuff is still inferior to the XN10 in my experience. Fortunately I still have a couple shafts in the closet.

Yeah, I don't think it out-shot the first xn10 either. But the newer TPS sticks have way better puck feel to me.

I actually like the 08 and 09 TPS stuff. I still have my XN10 stuff, but the newer TPS stuff is good. I wasn't impressed with any of the TPS stuff from after XN10 through 2007. The 07 TPS R8's have the vertical lines and two TPS logos. The 08 and after have the carbon weave showing. I just tried out my new standard R8 shaft out tonight and I really like it. I also like the R10 OPS. Very light and balanced. I just wish it were easier (and cheaper!) to find/buy TPS stuff!

I don't like the new blades at all. They last forever but there is far less feel than the older R2 blades.

The new blades are STIFF. Thats what hurts them.

I actually really liked the feel of the r8 and to a slightly lesser extent, the r10. Part of it depends if you're talking ice or roller though. I prefer the r8 for roller and the r10 for ice.

I love the new blades. I have a R8 tapered blade in a R2 XN10 shaft and it has been my favorite combo, even after using numerous blades over the years. Really thin blade and I think the feel is pretty good. Now if only I could find more in a Frolov curve......

The faces of both my perry ptc blades caved in on the first and second use respectively and I am way light on everthing but the toes of blades.

I have the same set-up today but my NX10 is 1st gen stuff - I love it but I'm not sure how long it will really last.

Thanks for the points everyone's made.

The PTC (Power Transfer Channel) does nothing. THAT is a gimmick.

I've used the R10s and really like the variable flex technology. It's not going to make too much of a difference for the guys who are just gliding around at a skate-and-shoot or putting-around in a lower-level beer league. The shaft is designed to be of benefit in faster, more competitive, cramped situations that force you to rush yourself a bit.

I still prefer my XN10s, though...

any interest in a lightly used TPS R10 OPS Whip Flex (LH Frolov Curve)

I can't get used to the curve at all

Wow, I've never heard of that before. Did you contact TPS?

ive been looking for one of the new tps r8 tapered shafts. damn things are near impossible to find in a regular flex. ive found 3 websites who sell the r8 shaft in my specs but i just do not have $120+ cash to lay out on a shaft right now. on another not, i just picked up a zhamnov xn10 one piece with a broken blade. i'll have to pair that up with my r8 until i can find something that'll match the r8 (not a bad spare though).

The best XN10s were the American ones. The Canadians that I've had have all been slightly less impressive for me.
