Considering the fact that there will soon be people in the HOF that did things far worse for the game than Rose did, it makes sense. I think his eligibility for the regular vote is nearly up, it may be up to the members committee.

Its so far overdue that its laughable.

Rose, for all his faults, was one of the very best hitters who ever played.

I've always thought he should be in, but my hometown probably makes me a little biased.

I voted on ESPN earlier and it was 80/20 for reinstatement.

Now that Rose has admitted guilt, in his book a couple years ago, the time is ripe. It amounts to a 20 year ban, which is justified, really.

The question now is whether steroid users get into the hall. so far a lot of them are recieiving very few votes, including McGwire, if I remember correctly. As much as I was disgusted by the steroid era, I am still inclined to think guys like McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro and even Bonds deserve to be in the Hall. however if they were caught, it should say so on their plaques, cast in bronze forever.

i agree with that but i also think that any records that a steroid user holds should have an asterisk next to it saying so in my honest opinion

That's why Pete should be in IMO. He gambled as a manager and that is despicable. But he got all his numbers legitimately and that's something that Bonds, Palmeiro, Clemens, A-Rod, ManRam, McGwire and Sosa can't say, just to name a few.

He wouldn't be going in for what he did as a manager but as a player and, as a player, there are precious few that can hold a candle to him. I lived in the philly area when he came to the phillies and met him, granted I was a kid. He was extremely nice to me even though talking to me was taking away from his watching and betting on the horse races.

Regardless, it's time to rescind the ban and let him into the HoF. One of the main issues, or so I've heard, is that nobody wants to be the one to overturn the decision of a man that died 8 days after handing down his ban.

In Rose's original banishment in which he signed, it stated that his lifetime ban would be reviewed 'annually', so I still really doubt anything comes of this.

Even if he was reinstated i have a hard time believing the members would allow him in, at least right away.

Rose's fight to become in the HoF to me seems nothing more than a fight for his worth to grow. His autographs would be worth so much more if he became a famer. And Rose has been all about raking in cash from selling his name.

I agree his numbers were extraordinary and a fantastic ballplayer, But he seems like a greedy jerk in all other aspects...

The guy is living off his signature now, and it still is selling.

A radio jockey here had a dinner and chArity auction a few weeks ago. Don't remember what all he had, but do remeber a Carson Palmer signed game jersey, and a rose signed picture. The picture went easily for 3 or 4 times the jersey.

They may not be worth as much anymore (at least until/if he gets in) but people are still paying for them.

In his defense, I don't think it's that terrible for him to sell on his name so much. He can't work in baseball and that's all he knows. Granted, it's his fault that he can't work in baseball...

My mom knows him pretty well b/c she works at a horse track in KY where he visits frequently. She's also really good friends with his best friend, a guy he met in the minors.

He may sell his name but he's not greedy per se. He bought my mom's friend a car and he let me interview him in college for a project I was doing. We spent about 45 mins on the phone talking baseball and life in general. It actually was pretty funny cuz I was gambling a lot at the time and we were both watching the same NIT tourney game while we were talking...

Pete Rose bled baseball and he was given the name "Charlie Hustle" for a reason. Betting on baseball is nothing compared to juicing and the effect of juicing on the game. Bonds and McGwire made a mockery of the true American game.
