Need help installing a Oakley visor

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I just picked up an Oakley Pro Straight visor for my RBK 8K helmet. I had been using cages, so never had to deal with spacers.

Anyways, I can't figure out how to properly put the spacers on. I looked at the guide which said that I should use B Spacers for my medium sized helmet (which I am assuming are the thicker of the two sets i have).

When I start to screw in the visor, there just seems to be a lot of tension on the visor which doesn't make me too comfortable, but at the same time I'm not too familiar with them to be judge and jury.

can anyone help? even if you can post pics or a link to a guide. I tried the search, and a search of Oakley's site too.

thanks in advance.

You're not gonna crack or warp the visor, if that's what you're worried about. Just mount the spacers with the proper-length hardware, make sure they're on their proper side, and that the oval-shaped hole is on the bottom. Land all four screws loosely before tightening them all down, so you don't fiddle with the mount too much. It makes things a lot easier.

Oh, and don't mount the visor upside down like I've seen some people do, believe it or not.

thanks,

Yeah my concern was that there would be a ton of tension on it, and if it got hit right it could crack/shatter.

Upon further inspection... I'm an idiot

Oakley Visors are tough customers, they can take considerable abuse. I wouldn't try it, but apparently a 9 mm. bullet from a handgun will spider-web shatter the visor, but not allow the bullet to pass through. This is the same company that makes the goggles, and sunglasses worn by a large amount of US soldiers. An Oakley Visor, as I stated, is one tough hombre.

I call bullshit.

I cant see a thin polycarbonate visor stopping a bullet, if so it would have to be at very far away range and still im a bit skeptical, however they are rock solid. Ive fell on mine, dropped stuff on my helmet, taken multiple pucks to the visor, ect and there as tough as they come. I also have a few pairs of oakley sunglasses (gascan s's, juliets, ect) and there all fantastic quality, wont find anything better made. In my motocross days i wore oakley goggles as well, there still like new.

After a bit of research, there are Oakley lenses that can stop a BB pellet, but any glasses listed as safety glasses do the same as it's a part of the certification tests. However, the Hockey Visors are made from a different material than the lenses that are rated as safety glasses.

I have Oakleys sunglasses I wear while shooting for their protective qualities, and none of their products will actually stop (or even slow down) a bullet.

JoeyJo506- I'm not saying they aren't durable, but your statement was so far beyond common sense it should not have been included.

I apologize for stating something that I read elsewhere. I beg for forgiveness from the MSH Powerplayers for cluttering a topic thread with mindless dribble...

Anyway, putting a little tension on the visor isn't going to hurt it... in my experience.

Lexan is a company who produces polycarbonate, not a separate material. Polycarbonate will stop a bullet, as bulletproof glass is just laminated sheets of polycarbonate. And I know from experience that a sheet on eighth inch polycarb (which is comparable to the thickness of the visor) will stop a shotgun blast (Can't remember the specs on the shotgun, but a shotgun is a shotgun) at 20 yards.

For the record it's Gargoyles that stop bullets. They worked for Arnie in T1 and I loved their flip-ups for baseball.
