New high end stick

Recommended Posts

I want to get a high end OPS. I want the P88, Recchi, etc, pattern. I play wing and take a mix of wrist, snap & slapshots. I don't stickhandle through traffic too much. I heard the XXXX isn't that great. What would be recommended?

the ONE95 sucks!!!

--

no just kidding

One of my all time favorites... I took out my ONE95's for a spin today too... been a long while since they've seen the ice... been using my S17's.

if you're not a stick handler - You'll definitely love this stick. The puck feel is a bit dampened compared to the easton, warrior lines. But you don't need to worry about that. You'll love this bad boy.

the XXXX is a good stick. i prefer the Supreme line over the Vapor line though. I can't get my shot to load up as good on the XXXX compared to my one95. But none the less... the XXXX is going OUT so it'd be the best route to go if you wanna stock up on a good stick and save $$$ while you're at it :)

ONE95 all the way though.

while only playing twice with it yet I was very pleased with the results I got from my one95 stick. It has nice puckfeel and excellent balance even with a short plug in in. I had to get used to the softer flex (87) which imo feels even softer then what it is rated at, but for my game it is an improvement because Im not the best player around and even though Im quite heavy my balance and arm strenght leave something to be desired.

Although I play defense I rarely take slappers since it just takes too long to get a good shot of. The one95 has been excellent on wristers for me, passing is great and I feel that the puck is going where I want it to go. Catching hard passes is different than previous sticks I have used, maybe due to the softer flex. You get a lot of "feedback" from this stick.

I don't know how far off the XXXX blade is from the OPS version, but I used that last night in my game and it was pretty great. Very, very stiff, very hard, shots seem to explode off it. Puck feel seems pretty good. I think it's a little thicker which helps keep the vibrations down.

I find it interesting that we spout out the marketing crap from Bauer... if you are a stick handler go Vapor, and a shooter go ONE95. Malkin is one of the best stick handlers in the league and he uses a ONE95. Pick whichever one feels better in your hand and with the puck on it.... or whichever one you can get on a clearance sale, which is my method.

I've seen the XXXX for $120, pattern/flex selection is getting weaker as it clears out. I like that $120 price much better than $190ish but I don't mind spending the extra $$$ for a good stick I'll like. Unfortunately I have no way to demo any models other than touching some in my LHS and no one on my team has one any to try.

I picked up some XXV's for $79/ea on special at Hockey Giant. a few weeks back. I have a knack of breaking the high end sticks after the warranty runs out... The line below the high end seem to last a long time!

I agree with that. Go 1 down if your not competing at a high level.

I've heard the Easton ST's are durable as well.

Also the MacDaddy's are on sale @ hockeymonkey for a good price. There are some good reviews about that stick on this site.

Hmm....I never thought of going down 1 level to something like the XXV. I can get that for $80. I also found the XXXX instock for $125 and it seems here that people like it. I now have a dilemma to save a bunch of cash & get the XXV, save decent amount on the XXXX or go all out for the One95 everyone raves about. Dang...I wish I had more cash to get 2.

They are basicly the same, but the One95 is a true one piece and the One85 (like the XXV) is a fused one-piece. It weighs a little more as well and is 2" longer.

I have used the XXXX and for the money you can get a better sticks. I did not like the feel at all, but that is just my personal opinion.

You could also go for a One95 shaft/blade combo and save about $50. If you were able to track down a pro stock One95 at TSR or on ebay, you'd be looking at more like ~105.

My last 2 cents;

By far my favorite stick has been the Easton SE16, Ignila curve. For some reason you can get one on Ebay for about $100 to $140 shipped. Great puck feel and great for shooting as well. However I have heard they are not durable and I have not used mine enough to form and opinion on that.
