New skates that gave you fits

Recommended Posts

Here is a question for anyone who has switched brands or models of skates, this question assumes the new skate you switched to fit correctly and was not a totally wrong boot for your foot type and that the profile and hollow was not worlds apart either.

Has anyone switched skates and found that they could absolutely not skate on them, when there was nothing wrong with the skate itself? Just flat out made you look 10x worse than you really are. Did you just skate thru it and adapt to the new model, chuck the skate and go back to old faithful, or make some sort of modification or adjustment to make the new skates work?

im having sort of this problem. i was on 2002 supreme 5000's and just bought x50s. the fit is pretty good, although not quite as good as the supremes fit me (but theyre still new, waiting to see if it develops) but im not as strong of a skater as i was on the 5000s. something just feels off about them. i just got them profiled, and ill see if that helps out. ive felt too far back on my heels, and i feel lke im getting fatigued a little faster.

its still early, ive only had them two weeks.

A bunch of years ago I switched from the Vapor 10's to the Graf 703's. The increased pitch of the 703's had me feeling like I was only able to skate on the front 1/3 of the blade. Some profiling and shims allowed me to eventually feel comfortable again.

My 9ks killed my feet so badly I had to stop playing halfway through a game. I sold them a day or so later.

I bought a pair of One75's. One foot is fine, the other feels like the blade is not straight. Had my LHS pro, who is top notch, check it out extensively. The skate is just fine. To me it feels like the back of the blade is dragging on an inside edge, and the outside edge is non-existent in turns/crossovers. Will try a couple of things like not lacing up so tight or a different footbed, but ready to go back to skates that work.

Maybe the higher cut of the boot is screwing you up?

I tried switching to Tour Inlines at the beginning of the year, that was a horribly failed experiment. The boot was too wide and the tongue was way too short. I ended up putting chassis on a pair of my old CCM Vectors for about 6 months and just recently bought a pair of Missions that fit like a dream.

think i'm probably the only person on here who has love for the cobra holders! tried going back to tuuks and felt hugely flat-footed and unstable. cant see me switching back from graf anytime soon because of that.

I also went with a pair of One75's. I came from an old pair of 4000's (with the blue and white tounge) and the One75's felt great at first. After skating on them and working them in for a few months I developed pain on the outside of both of my feet. I tried fixing this with Superfeet but the pain came back after a few minutes of skating. I'm beginning to think the skates aren't wide enough for me in the forefoot.

+1

Switched from Easton S11 to Graf 703. I liked how the S11 fit my heel & anke but the forefoot was way too wide. At first, I was afraid the 703's would be too narrow. The guy who fitted me assured me that it would break in and give me a good fit. The skates hurt a lot at first and I was afraid I had made a bad choice.

However, after I figured how to tighten them and about 10 skates later, they feel great. I especially like how balanced I feel in the Cobra holders.

I had this problem. For me, it had to do with arch support (or lack of it). Turns out my arch is higher on one foot, and without the proper support, it caused me to pronate. When I used Superfeet grey, it helped a little. I added a little more arch support (inserted those stick-on heel grips underneath the arch of the Superfeet), now it feels fine.

I'll have to try my Superfeet and see if that helps. With the One75 my arch in the affected skate hurts a bit if I really snug the laces. That leg is also a bit shorter, so I might try a Superfeet ( or Superfoot as it were) in that boot only. More arch support and a thicker footbed. Good stuff !

This is what I currently do. I can't go without my superfeet (i also go 2 sizes up from normal on superfeet, due to where my arch is) on my left foot, can't have it on my right. I'd like to experiment with different sizes of superfeet on my right foot though.
