BlackIce 1 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 I just finished my first men's league season and it was great. I will be playing on this team during the winter on Mondays. I am looking for a second team to play on. However, I am only finding teams that are playing on Sunday or Tuesday. That would mean I would be playing back to back. I would prefer one team playing Monday and the other team playing either Wednesday/Thursday. For those that have played back to back for the long Winter Rec. season how was it? I just don't want to do it and the games become a chore.
yrhmblnr8r 69 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 My leagues have been back-to-back before. How late are your games? Back-to-back 10:45's sucks. Back-to-back 8:00's isn't as bad.Cons- lack of sleep- knowing that after your second game you're done of the week (unless you hit drop in somewhere)- damp gear baking in your car while you're at work on day 2, depending on the proximity of your home, office, and rink.Pros- the sweet feeling from back-to-back good games- you're right back on the ice to make up for it if you have a crappy game on night 1- you get to play hockey twice a weekI say go for it. Worst case, you don't like it and you go back to once a week next season. You said you just finished your first men's league season so I'll assume you're eager to play more. This can only help. silverclrk 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 I played on 3 teams these last 3 months and it does become a choir. Played monday night tueday night and wed night. After about the 4th week the monday night team became a project we were losing and fighting with each other. I just didn't want to go it was a total waste of money. I am going to continue to play tues and wed for the upcoming sessions. My body just did not have enough time to recover playing the 3 days straight. 2 games straight I think improves my proformance skill wise. 1 game a week and I fell like it just isn't enough to satisfy my craving. sickwilly 37 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 If you're not in shape for it, game 2 can be dreadful (from personal experience). Otherwise, it's fun to skate with different groups of players and in different leagues.
adcool17 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 This summer I played on 2 teams durring the summer. One was Sunday night the other was Monday. It was fine until long weekends and holidays started to come up. Every long weekend this summer our Sunday night league got pushed back to Monday, and the Monday night stayed on Monday which ment 2 games in one night if it was possible. Each night was at a different rink, so I had to travel half way across the city between games. I was able to make it to both games all but once, when this long weekend happend. Either way this made Tuesday a very very long day...even more so when we loss.
cptjeff 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 Back to back in terms of days? That's easy. I sometimes get back to back games with two different leagues at home. As in, move your stuff to a different dressing room, change jerseys and go right back out back to backs. They're not really a huge deal, yeah, your legs are sore in the second game, but they start working again once the adrenaline starts flowing. IniNew 53 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 I play Friday and Saturday night. It's just beer league so it's nothing serious. Saturday I somtimes play multiple games in one night like cptjeff. Change jerseys and hop back out there.

kovyperron5727 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 I've done this a couple of times in my life. Last season I played high school and travel. High School was always on Sunday and travel was usually Sat and Sunday so many times I would have to rush out of my travel game get a quick lunch and off to my school game. I absolutely hate putting on wet gear tho haha
eric42434224 1 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 Funny you ask this. I was asked to join a secong team (40+). I already play for a team, but since this guy pays for the whole team, I couldnt resist. Plus the 40+ team is a higher skill level...more along the lines of my level of play. My games arent on back to back days.......some days they are literally back to back on the same day!!! I will have to leave one game, go change my uniform, and hop on the other rink for my second game. I told the 40+ team that my priority comes to my first team....in fact, I have to leave the 40+ game 15min early to play on the other team. Good thing this happens only once a month or so. I love to play back to back days, but only once a week so I can catch up on sleep...the games and open are usually at 9 or 10pm.
shoeshine boy 242 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 I do this all the time. during the winter I play on 3 teams. one that plays only on Wednesdays, one that plays either on Friday nights or Sunday nights and one that plays any day BUT Mondays, Wednesdays or Friday nights.the Sunday/Friday nights league allows subs so sometimes I'll play back to back like some of the guys have talked about.the key to all of this is napping, eating well and proper hydration. if your body tells you to skip a game then skip a game. eric42434224 1 Report post Posted August 20, 2009 Good advice. Listen to your body when it says to take a night off. At 2 months from 40, my body lets me know more often than it used to! :)

I just don't want to do it and the games become a chore.at least your games are on set days.my sked is all over the place, so its unpredictable... but i don't find myself getting burnt out... playing on two teams is fun, its two totally different dynamics... on one i'm a 2nd line winger with a few solid leaders, so i'm relatively quiet, but it's a really close knit team... we all stay long after the game is over, golf together, party together, etc... and on the other i'm a 1st line centre who doubles as a motivational speaker and looked upon as a saviour, but there's nothing going on in the room. the only problem i have is remembering names ;)

yrhmblnr8r 69 Report post Posted August 27, 2009 I have a teammate with a 5-yo and a 1-yo. This winter he played with me on two teams plus one other, leaving his wife at home on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Cool wife, I say.
shotty 7 Report post Posted August 27, 2009 Does anyone with a family and kids do this? I wouldnt dare do soi have a son. it's not too difficult because he goes to bed quite early and i do my fair share of "parenting" during the day, so the games are guilt free. the extra stick and puck sessions, random drop in games etc are the hard ones to negotiate... especially since my s.o used to skate with me at stick n puck.i guess i have it kind of lucky though, being self employed and s.o. being able to pick and choose when, where and how long she works. tonyd04 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2009 I have a wife and a 5 yo son. I'm on two rosters on Saturday and sub on a third on the same night and a fourth on Friday for the summer. I don't let it impact my time with the fam on Sunday and since the games are mostly late anyway he's done for the night by the time I leave and he loves going to earlier games. The problem is, now that the kids have started we had a game scheduled at 1:15 this past Saturday and one of the teams had a 2:00am game that was rescheduled for Sunday night. That's when it becomes a beating.
