Jose Theodore's infant son passes away

Oh God. Nothing can be worse than losing a child. I have a 3-1/2 yr old, and 5 month old daughters, and I am not sure how I could handle losing one. I hope they pull through this.

That's heart wrenching. :( Any more details on what happened to the child?

Their first kid had breathing problems for the first few months too, so I'm guessing it's a hereditary condition. The second pregnancy was a miscarriage and now this.

Sad times for Theo

Theodore: 'It's Going to Be the Biggest Challenge'

Jose Theodore on Saturday said he's facing the "biggest challenge" of his life after losing his two-month old son last month.

"It's the best it could be," Theodore said moments after addressing reporters at the podium on Saturday. "It's something new for me. I'm dealing with it the best I can, and being around the guys here helps get my mind off things."

"But it's definitely going the biggest challenge for me," he said. "I've been through some hard stuff but nothing compared to this. I'm going tell you how the season goes on. But for now, I'm just doing the best that I can."

General Manager George McPhee said of Theodore's tragic loss: "Jose is a really well grounded guy, and obviously he had a heartbreaking experience. Sometimes people go through things like that, lose family members, and hockey is sometimes your sanctuary [because] you can get away from everything else and play. He's good character guy and strong-willed guy and I'm sure he'll see his way through this."

My friend lost his three-year-old to leukemia. Because he has two other children, he's said that the tough part is the constant reminders of what could have been: never watch her ride a bike, or learn to read, or countless other milestones that parents are proud to see.
