Rangers 2009-2010

How ridiculous was Gaborik's release on that 4th goal? That was unreal.

On an unrelated note: Why can't I get the HD feed for MSG but I can get the regular feed on Center Ice (DirecTV)?

I got the HD MSG feed fine on DirectTV last night. Silly question, but are you sure you were on the HD channel?

I think the Rangers are really responding to torts. The Kings game was the first game that you could really say Lundqvist won the game for the Rangers. Messier was asked what he thought about THN predicting the Rangers in 13th place, and he said something along the lines that, with a goalie like Lundqvist its impossible to not make the playoffs.

I have only seen the highlights. But their positioning and play has been up this yr. The goal from Ryan Smyth was the only suss looking marker I have seen scored against so far.

I think the real test will be Detroit, Pens etc. Thats when we'll know if the Rags are legit or not.

Haha, yes. Legitimate question. The strange thing is that it's not even an option. For example:

770 Kings @ Rangers

770-1 Kings @ Rangers (HD)

771 Kings @ Rangers

771-1 To Be Announced

The first two are the Kings feed and then it's MSG. If I go to MSG in the normal guide it tells me that it is blacked out in my area. I called DirecTV about it and they said it was very strange.

Oh ok, I go directly to MSG on 634. It's strange that you are blacked out of the feed. It's not like you are in the local area.

Well the Rangers got off to a hot start last season too. Give them until the end of October to judge.

That hot start got the Rangers in the playoffs. You play 82 games a year. It doesn't matter when you win, they're all worth 2 points.

This years team is lightyears better than last. Last year Arron Voros was leading the team in points early on......

But a hot start and faulty finish usually spells early exit.

Missed the game but if goals come from the blueliners that is a huge plus. Henrik when hot is inhuman. He is the team, I don't care what anybody says.

Good to see a young D like Del Zotto getting heaps of points. We need some young guys (instead of established players) coming through and doing the hard yards.

Great pinching, slapper against Toronto.

There are more upper level players under 25 in the NHL than in a long, long time.

Looks like Del Zotto's loving the rebound from that angle.

It's like the third time (am I right?) he scored like that.

Hope this loss against the sharks will get them (and torts) going again...

Avery had two bad penalties and could easily have been called for one or two more. I'll bet Torts is really happy that he moved him up to the second line.

intersting game tonight...the play this week looked like last year all over...just when I thought we had turned the corner.

I don't know about sitting Dubi and Higgins in the 3rd, I don't think that sends the right message, but that's why I'm not the coach.

3 more next week...hope they pick it back up!

Seriously? That sends the PERFECT message: You don't do what is expected of you, and what is best for the team, you don't play. I'm glad Torts is distributing ice time based on contribution, not the name on the back of the jersey.

Dubi made a poor decison to try and dangle ALL the Habs in the neutral zone, he coughed it up, and they converted. Dubi, meet the end of the bench. You two will be great friends the rest of the evening. Higgins was lacksadaisical in backchecking, and the unchecked Cammaleri deposited another puck behind Hank. Mr. Higgins, please join your comrade Mr. Dubinsky... and bring a crossword or something.

I'm not saying they didn't make mistakes; and I really don't care who's name is on the jersey, but when they only have 3 lines they need to put the mistakes behind them and get out and play a solid 3rd period. A win is what's best for the team, not sitting a guy (or two) for an entire period for making a "poor decision," especially when one of them is having a solid year. What's the worst that happens if they play; they cost you the game? We lost anyway and played a weak 3rd period and OT because we don't have the talent to have people sitting on the bench "doing crosswords."

Take it out on them in practice; that's where you teach...IMO

All good points...two different philosophies I guess...whatever gets the point across without hurting the team. We've got some young guys on the team and we'll have to wait and see if benching a player for making a mistake is effective.

As for Dubi...

Lines will continue to change and what line a guy is on means very little this early in the season...plus Drury's production thus far has not been impressive. Dubi played two poor games in a row, but the "fact" is 8 pts in 11 games is a pretty solid start...

The biggest criticisms of Torts have always been that he juggles the lines too much and he puts people in the doghouse quickly and publicly. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Another ridiculous goal by Gaborik tonight. I can't believe he managed to pick that corner from that extreme angle. Not much Bryzgalov could do about that one.

Unfortunately he left the game early, limping to the dressing room. My amazing powers of foresight suggests a groin tweak.
