does anyone know how ovechkin get the grip at the top of his stick i couldnt find any pictures but it's like a circle at the top.

Do you mean his tape job? It looks like he rips the tape thin on the roll, then goes around the handle until its thick enough, then puts grip tape and clear. Oh and his little drawings.

yeah like that i tried it but it came off the top that's why i was wondering if their is a certain to do it.

I do it the same way minus the clear. I just take a regular roll of tape, I use white, rip it in about 1/4" and go around my handle about 12 times. Make sure you pull the tape tight so it stays on the handle, after you get it to the thickness you want tape over it with whatever tape you want, white, black, color, clear, grip. I just use whatevers left on the roll I ripped, it'll be thinner but it saves from wasting tape.

Ive never tried it that way, but I havent had a problem with it coming off by ripping the roll. Give it a shot and see how it work and feels in your hand.

maybe try and cheat and fold a piece of paper to the shape you want then do the tape job over it

Just rip it and you're good to go, I know a ton of guys that do it, no complaints and it's easy.

if you tear a little bit on the roll, it will continue with that thickness, it fits MUCH better in the palm of your hand than the whole width and its not as bulky. funny someone mentioned 12 turns, thats the number ive used pretty much my whole life for the knob.

I think 12 is the perfect amount, obviously its PP, but with 12 its not too big and not too small.

i never really thought about it much at first, just always seemed to call it quits at 12.

i should correct myself, for a while there i had to go more because our league mandated it... they needed the knob to be thick enough that it couldnt go thru a cage.

rip the width you want, then apply it. the tape should keep tearing at that width, so long as the remaining width isnt going with it.

if you want to get started, use scissors to make the first cut

I usually fold tape by width twice, then wrap two of this around the top(makes the little knob) then put pieces of tape vertical on each side of the shaft that go over the knob and into the shaft hole. Then tape under the knob normally I'll post pic in a few mins.

I've been taping my stick like that ever since I was a little kid, and ripping the tape in half is the way I do it too. I usually make mine larger then Ovechkins.

Step 1 - locate a pair of scissors and a roll of tape

Step 2 - pull the end of the tape off the roll

Step 3 - cut the tape to the preferred width of the "knob"

Step 4 - stick the non-"knob" part of the tape on the roll and hold it down with your thumb

Step 5 - pull the "knob" strip of tape off the roll several inches until it no longer pulls at the rest of the roll

Step 6 - apply to stick as needed

If you want a tiny little nub just to keep your hand on the shaft (that's what I use now), the above works great. I use 1/3 roll or so and leave a very slight overhang on the end of the stick so it doesn't rub against my palms. No need to get it really rounded.
