Hockey politics

Sometimes awful sometimes not. It depends on the coaches and league officials. It's a personal thing really. No this is not the #17 from corebeam.

with our aaa,aa teams u either have to be really good, or have real friendly dads. cause the coaches only pick players whos dads they get along with.

Terrible. Whitby Wildcats AA plays against the biggest joke ever (COUGHKyleDugganCOUGH) and the only reason he made it is casue his dad is good friends with the coach.

Duggan. What part of Ontario is he from? My really good buddy, Brian Duggan, has a bunch of family back in Ontario some where.

Yeah politics are gay, there was this 17 year old kid a while ago that played for the worst team and they rated him bad practically just cause he had a bad looking hhelmet. So he would tear it up in every div he made just cause he got rated bad.

That's why you should always avoid wearing a Nike Quest, a puke-green helmet, or a combination of both ;)

Although most every team has some sort of politics, SSAC is by far the worst. The board of directors basically picks the teams. I used to play for them but luckily due to politics was cut and now play Midget 'AAA' for KC which is a much better organization.

in my league theres one association that is considered a winter club and have been stealing the best players from other teams from around town for a couple of decades now and making some shady deals to get them to play ... i.e these players dont have to pay any fees to play, compared to the kids that have to pay upwards of $1500

Interesting to see that even on the other side of the world there are people greedy and power hungry enough to screw our game royaly. Its the same here in Aus with Parents in my former league bribing certain league offcials so their kids will make it into the state rep. teams. I've had several players "poached" off the team I coach now and it hurts bad. But thats life and at the moment theres a gret bunch of kids at my club now that make it so much fun to coach. Take the good with the bad and hope the Ego's go where they belong.

I would have to say that the politics in Sherwood Park and SSAC are very un-ethical. There seems to be a lot of politics here, at least...

Sean Mcann are you from Sherwood Park?

I just moved and tried out for tier1. despite being better then the majority of the people i played against, they still cut me, now iam in tier 2, and honestly, no word of a lie, I can basicly score a goal when ever I choose too. If I want to score, I can pick up the puck and i would say 7/10 times skate through the entire team and score.

Last time I moved, this happend and I scored 7 goals in my first game, then the rep team brought me up and i was on the first line. Amazing how that works huh?

Is that bad to have a coach's kid on the team? on my AA/AAA team, the coach's kid is on the team and he is quite good. And btw, the coach is also GREAT.

Ya know, being a coach on a younger team is a LOT OF WORK! I have never begrudged a coach bringing his kid along on the team. Otherwise what is he going to do, coach a team AND have to drive his kid to practices and games??? How would that work?

But there is some responsibility needed here. Unless the kid is Bobby Orr reincarnate, if he is on the power play, penalty kill, and 1st line, then the coach should really look at himself in the mirror and feel some shame. If the kid has to earn his ice time like everyone else, then bravo!

Crosskore...unless the coaches know you ahead of time, it is very hard to get noticed at an open tryout. You have to work very hard every shift, be way better than the other players, and show a number of intangibles like team work, good attitude, excellent conditioning, still working hard at the end of the hour, etc. It is hard to show all these in two or three hours on the ice. You have to work the PR! Get last year's coach to call these guys before tryouts and tell them your skills, athleticism, coachability, team leadership, etc. Then at least they might watch for you at the tryout.

On your current team, the best way to get noticed and moved up is to help the team win all of their games! I guarantee if the team wins big, people will be looking around at who on the team is making it happen. Also, # of goals scored in a lesser league does not mean that much to a coach. They have all moved players up that were scoring dynamos at an easy level, but could not find the net at the harder level. Make sure you have the whole package: Lots of assists to show you are not a one-trick-pony, but can work with a team when the competition gets tougher, and a moderate amount of penalty minutes (and not for slashing or hooking) showing that you have some grit.
